In these pictures two women embrace heart to heart. They are painted with heartbeats in the colours of different skin tones.
Despite their distinctly painted skin colours, these shades blur their true identity.
With this work, Stijn wants people to reflect on why it seems so crucial to discover others' origins. Our skin colour influences how we are seen and treated, even though we essentially have the same heart. Does the colour of our skin still determine our identity?
This question invites deep reflection on how prejudices and perceptions about skin colour affect our view of individual identity and equality. The embrace contrasts with the sometimes difficult reality of reconciliation between people of different origins.
