fun fact about Discover card; it was created by Sears, who were the largest retailer in the US at the time. they sold it off in the late 90's when they started not to do so well

Sorry I forgot the word!

Very true -- and now you have me interested because I see them also on Pornhub, what's going on with Venmo, PayPal, ShopPay, and GooglePay? I've paid no attention to this issue for a while and wonder if these new e-commerce platforms do anything differently, or if they are somehow chained to the same stupid rules.

As a former cash-register person, I can agree to how crappy it is to be in the middle of things out of my control lol! Thanks for this deep dive. It's good to have a clearer picture of the lengths people will go to cover their own asses while they decide how we spend our own money.

I think that a person knowing how things work is an important part of letting them decide how they want to live.

I got my Discover card around 1990. Loved the cash back until they wouldn't allow their card to be used on what they decided were porn sites, so I canceled my card. I just checked PornHub and Discover is there now! Wow! I wonder when that happened? I'm going to guess: Ebay/Amazon, which made it hard for them to cover transaction-by-transaction when somebody might buy something naughty. I made $500 in cash-back on my Visa last month, feel free to do the math on how much Discover missed out on because they didn't want me buying lube online in the 90s.
