You can travel to Penang from Kuala Lumpur by train. There are many types of trains and tickets available, ranging from the fastest option (3.5 hours) to slower ones (around 4.5 hours). I bought a ticket for the faster train, which cost around Rp370,000 (approximately $23) for a journey from KL Sentral to Butterworth Station. You can purchase tickets through the KTMB app—check it out on the Play Store or App Store.

The train itself is quite comfortable and not too noisy. You can store your suitcase either near your seat or in the designated luggage area if it's a large one (over 20 inches).

Once you arrive at the station, you can follow the signs to cross over to Penang Island by ferry. The ticket costs only Rp8,000 (around $0.50) and the ride takes about 15 minutes.

In my opinion, Penang feels even hotter than Kuala Lumpur. But once you're on the ferry, it's super comfortable and cool inside.

Once you arrive in Penang at Raja Tun Uda Ferry Terminal, you can walk a short distance outside and you’ll find a bus stop. This is where buses to various destinations gather! The buses are comfortable and, of course, air-conditioned. You can pay with cash too. The routes are very easy to understand—just check them on Google Maps.

Here’s a look at the bus fare—it's very affordable! From this bus stop to the one near my accommodation, it cost only around Rp7,000 (about $0.45) and took roughly 30 minutes.

After that, it was just a 5-minute walk to my accommodation (an apartment).

So, what does my accommodation look like?
