2024-10-14 17:00:08 +0000 UTCI think Joss is a good example of positive, non-toxic masculinity. He's romantic, in touch with his feelings, he's honest with both himself and his wants as well as his partner's, he stands firm on his beliefs and can engage in debate without belittling others' point of view, and he's loyal af.

2024-10-13 18:26:08 +0000 UTCSpace science will always be my most favorite kind, outside of wildlife restoration. While restoring natural environments and biomes are fulfilling in a practical and tangible way, space is so romantic and abstract. It takes your imagination to the farthest possible places and lets you run free there.

2024-10-13 14:22:30 +0000 UTCThat opening scene of the transition from Earth to the galaxy to the universe to the eyes of a child is a hell of a mission statement from the film, if you ask me.

2024-10-13 13:11:21 +0000 UTCFrank, you were surprised at the lack of security at the first sight that allowed a bomber to get through. This movie was pre-9/11 and shows how insular we were as a country about being the target of violence on our own soil. TSA was created in response to 9/11 and, as evidenced by your comment, is now our baseline expectation. It can be jarring to watch entertainment that displays our past naivety. How young we were!

2024-10-12 16:41:17 +0000 UTCThank you Richard. I'm glad the way I review movies is very well appreciated. Yes I will definitely like to know more about the encounter with the aliens. I'm glad you enjoyed the review

2024-10-12 16:41:03 +0000 UTCI remember loving this movie back in the day. If you enjoy “First Contact” sci-fi as much as I do, might I suggest the movie Arrival. It’s directed by Denis Villeneuve, who’s currently being lauded for the Dune movies. In 2017 it was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Production Design, as well as Sound Design and Editing.

2024-10-12 16:38:32 +0000 UTCI also love this movie and your reaction to it. The way you pause and let us know what you're thinking and feeling is beautiful. Carl Sagan's novel is also fantastic. The theme that being a rational scientist also involves a type of faith is thought-provoking. If you're curious and want "more" the novel has much more detail about her encounter with the aliens. And it has a significant twist of proof at the end. I encourage you to check it out.
