2024-10-20 20:15:07 +0000 UTCTo Louis it had to be the same effect than to Lestat. He spoke to him, asked why he hurt himself and then... nothing. This must have been the Same feeling Louis got Always from Lestat. Love bombing on the one side but when Louis needed to get a sign that Lestat is really serios about loving him, Lestat messed it up.

2024-10-13 21:35:00 +0000 UTCBro this episode was completely a show invention⦠the only thing that took place in the books from this episode is toward the beginning when Louis and Daniel were having their interview. But the jovial attitude was not in the books, also the drugs (at least at this point in the story) had no part to play in the interview. While the source material is indeed great⦠please put respect on the show writers and show runners name. Hannah Moscovitch and Rolin Jones!!! There are certainly plenty more that work under them, but they are the ones in addition to Anne that we need to be thanking.

2024-10-03 16:28:34 +0000 UTCBook readers have been here since the 90ās or something and was so disappointed in the movies, especially the second movie. So happy they got a redemption with the tv series and I hate so many dissed on this series when it came out bc Louis was being played by a black person instead of white which so many hated for some reason. Emmyās should of been thrown for S1 and S2 needs rewards also man. Such a complex series. So happy itās getting out there, especially with it going to Netflix for an even bigger audience

2024-09-18 16:51:30 +0000 UTCSince you're reacting to the next episode tomorrow, I'm re-watching this reaction to prepare, and there's a lot I could say, but most of it other lovely people in the comments have already said, and the rest I'll talk about more when you get later into the season. But one thing that I still can't get over no matter how many times I watch it is that Louis says the EXACT same words Armand says at the end. It's so chilling. Like when Daniel asks Louis at the beginning why Armand spared him, and Louis says the whole "Armand preserves my happiness even when I don't or can't" spiel. And then at the end of the episode Armand says the exact same thing, except this time Louis picks up on it and lets him know by joining in on saying "I had a hunch". It's such a scary moment! Feels straight out of a horror movie. Like what in the brainwashing mind control bullshit are we getting ourselves into here hahaha. It straight up feels like Armand implanted those words in Louis' brain. But yeah, that realization always freaks me out the most. I love these freaky, horrible, messed up characters so much. Can't wait for episode 6 tomorrow!! And thank you as always for all your thoughtful discussions.

2024-09-18 00:09:23 +0000 UTCRolin Jones was the creator of this show. He changed thing from Anne's book. The show was much better than that the book. Rolin added so many layers to the story. He he moved things around. He says that the show will include aspects of Anne Rice's Vampire Cronicles.

2024-09-16 21:27:38 +0000 UTCNo spoilers, just my perspective on a couple things I forgot to include in my initial comment. Another thing I think Louis having 128 boys over vs. 5 in the San Fran era points out is that Louis was addicted to drugs (obviously we know he was NOT doing well already). He would give them to guys, like he did to Daniel, then ādrainā them to get the high. To your point about the differences in the way Louis is talking about Lestat in this versus the POV footage weāve gotten both seasons is because (thankfully) Daniel had at least some recorded audio from the actual events. And the fact that he and Louis are trying to fill in the blanks together so we can at least kind of trust Danielās side.
Amanda Hill
2024-09-16 18:46:23 +0000 UTCGosh I keep thinking of things! In episode 1, Louis mentioned that he wasnāt in Danielās memoir but he WAS! And like Lestat, Louis became a person who āliked a little variety from time to timeā. This show is diabolical and intricate as hell.

2024-09-16 03:32:14 +0000 UTCšøamazing episode. The acting and dialogue is top notch and thereās sooo much to take in on a first watch. Your reaction to Louis recollecting his suicide attempt was similar to my own. Louisās lifelong struggle with suicidal ideation is one of the realest parts of the entire show. You can tell in Dubai he still struggles with it. Also, I feel like this is the first episode where we truly meet Armand. So far in Dubai, heās been in Amadeo cosplay as Rashid or heās presented himself as always calm and in control of his emotions (makes you forget he was essentially a cult leader living underground and completely detached from his humanity for a couple hundred years). But here, heās 100% unhinged. Majorly insecure, making Louis suicide attempt about himself and guilt tripping him(āprison of empathyā my ass), being self destructive (calling Lestat was an insane move). Torturing a random human and your boyfriend for 6 days is crazy even for a vampire. This episode felt like a horror movie. Last thing. Itās hilarious that Louis called Armand boring and Armand interpreted that as āLouis says youāve lived a fascinating lifeā. Like bro those are two different sentencesš. These vampires need therapy so bad.
Tommie
2024-09-16 02:58:23 +0000 UTCI think 1973 Louis referring to Daniel as āboyā is a nod to the novel. The interviewer is only referred to as āthe boyā in the book.

2024-09-16 00:13:38 +0000 UTCHaha Anne āFrankā did not write this or erotica. Iām officially diagnosing you with Stage 4 Name Amnesiaš. Alas, while she deserves all the praise in the world, the book is VERY different. The same broad strokes are there but much of the showās brilliance has to be attributed to producer Rolin Jones. He made MASTERFUL changes to the narrative that elevated the material and IMO made it more layered, complex, and endlessly fascinating than the book. He changed narrative structures, time periods, swapped races, unearthed the previously hidden gay subtext, etc⦠Im just saying donāt expect some of your fav scenes from the show to appear. for instance, many people despise the book version of Louis. (Although in fairness, it should be noted that Anne was involved with the production before she passed and gave her blessing to the changes that were made. )

2024-09-15 23:41:36 +0000 UTCOmg spot on, everything you said. And that āTHE NAME!ā rocks my soul every time. 2024-09-15 05:52:04 +0000 UTCšø finallyyyyyy got a chance to sit down and take in this reaction, i'm so with you! i remember being like ?????? after watching this episode and needing to go think on it in the shower for a bit. just for the sheer volume of information and insight it unleashed on everything i'd seen up until then. i never imagined going into season 2 that we'd be given an entire episode like this. the way fragments of the original interview that we saw back in season 1 and all the flashbacks daniel has been having until this point are finally expanded on and fleshed out in this episode is just....ughhhh chef's kiss, no notes! 24 hour standing ovation to assad for his performance this episode. that nasty louis/armand fight scene is one of my favorites of the show. every line is so mean and such a low blow and delivered so perfectly that i can basically recite that entire argument from memory at this point. louis' "there he is...." to armand reminded me of when florence (his mother) said the same thing back to him at some point back in season 1. the callbacks are soooo good. i also loved seeing the louis + daniel alliance in this episode. after he becomes a vampire we basically always see louis in the context of a romantic (lestat, armand) or parental (claudia) relationship and i just love seeing him with what so far looks to be the closest thing he has to a normal friend. š„¹ + lolol to flip flop on that just a lil i also think he looked a touch disappointed when he realized he and louis hadn't hooked up. his face when louis was like "...do you want to now?" was intriguing... ;) there's so much more i could chat about re: this episode but commenting on all the things i want to would have me here for days. i cannot wait to see you take in the rest of the season, it's just banger after banger after banger. finally, doubling down on recommending Fleabag! it's not quite the same tone (not a horror/thriller/supernatural sort of show) but it does such a fantastic job at exploring the human condition that i'd be remiss if i didn't put in a good word for it.

2024-09-14 23:50:28 +0000 UTCJust thought of another show Black Sails. Pirates. 4 seasons about 10 episodes each in all that typically comes with it set in Nassau/West Indies. Weaves both real people and fictional characters from the novel Treasure Island. The show takes place before the events in the book however. Stellar acting, cinematography, gray decisions, and complete character arcs for nearly every player.

2024-09-14 22:47:26 +0000 UTCOh! Oh! And itās not a spoiler to point out that the intro title card was different for this episode. The title card with the orchestra playing keeps track of the locations of the stories. You saw it in episode 1 of season 2 with post war Europe. Then 2.2, Paris. Then this episode⦠Oh and I just caught in Danielās request for Louisās 20 minutes, āFor me.ā Itās what Grace said to get Louis and Paul to dance for her! āItās for me.ā I also think itās interesting that Armandās choices to expose Danielās weakness all revolve around sexual exploitation. Daniel sold sex via magazines and then humiliated someone to have it with him. Armand honed in on that.

2024-09-14 21:27:03 +0000 UTCFor shows to watch, I'm nominating 3. The first is called From. It's about a town in middle America that mysteriously traps those who enter. There are human looking creatures that come out at night to trick and attack the stuck residents. Like with IWTV, it will hook you by the end of episode 1, IMO, as you try to figure out this mystery of why no one can leave and how they can get home. It has "Lost" vibes. It's a mystery so there will be threads and rabbit holes and all the things. It's ongoing though so not sure if that is not what you are looking for but S3 will start 9/22. I think it's an MGM show but the 1st 2 seasons are available on Prime. The next show is called Evil; it is a 4 season Paramount show that just ended. I think it's on Netflix too. You get priests and skeptics investigating supposed miracles, demonic possessions, etc to assess for a scientific or supernatural explanation. The last one while not supernatural, has elements of IWTV based on inner thoughts, people, and navigating life. It's called Fleabag. 2 short seasons with only 12 30-mins episodes. On Prime. It follows a young woman, trying to make sense of the world. It's a comedy so could be a good choice for a bit of supernatural pilot cleanser. And again, IMO, it will hook you with episode 1.

2024-09-14 21:12:55 +0000 UTCyāall are seriously insufferable. whatās the point of saying that if youāre gonna type this comment anyway? hints are still spoilers. and this is rich especially coming from you since youāve been very compassionate and empathetic towards lestat in your comments. but hey i guess the child sex slave story is just « a sad backstoryĀ Ā» that doesnāt give any insight into the mind of this one note mustache twirling villain.

2024-09-14 20:51:52 +0000 UTCI love your commentary and reactions, along with your genuine openness. This show is amazing on so many levels and I agree with you that everyone needs to watch. You made some really stellar connections: Santiago and Armand with getting people to ask for or be ok with death; both season's e5 leaving Louis broken and battered. And the the last of just "what has this show done to me." I simply say "welcome to the coven." I've not been obsessed with a show in a long time. Your comments about not being spoiled are very apt. I've seen comments other places where people will respond like, "it's *insert adjective*", which could ruin the experience. There's a scene in Big Bang Theory that I usually reference that says it better. I'll try to find the link. *insert flower emoji*

2024-09-14 20:49:13 +0000 UTCwhen you say « soft languageĀ Ā» in my comment are you referring to the word empathy and ignoring everything else notably the words abuser vicious evil etc? i wasnāt weaponizing his backstory to justify his actions. did you even read? i said between lestat and armand the fact that i, me, my person, feels more empathy for armand and i dislike lestat despite being aware that they are essentially the same, both abusers, it is most definitely because of his backstory, style, and ofc the acting from assad.
RH
2024-09-14 20:17:31 +0000 UTCGoodness, I love this community, Everyone has been so good at articulating their points and feelings on the characters and specifically this episode. I've said before that this is my favorite episode of the show (I go back and forth between 2 episodes but I always come back to this one ) and that other than Claudia who will always be my first choice Armand is my favorite character. Instead of going full into breakdowns, I've just written things I thought about while rewatching with you. Louis says to Daniel that Armand sometimes "lingers when boats come into harbor" Armand was sold to a merchant ship Captain I didn't see this said when reading everyone else's comments but I may have just missed it for what it's worth (this does not absolve him of the things he did or said) Louis is an addict himself, Armand has stated he has done this many MANY times before and he gets guys high and drains them essentially taking the drugs into his system. He is completely out of it. Louis de Pointe du Lac child of Florence de Pointe du Lac how did you let Armand eat you up like that you went so low even brought up his SA and still lost as he went to hell. When it comes to the game of telephone that Armand/ Louis and Lestat played, I personally am not upset with Armand for not saying I love you for Lestat though that is such a manipulative thing to start and not commit to. I wouldn't be able to either I don't think most people would, we put these higher levels of emotional intelligence on these characters that we have already been shown they do not possess. Though in regards to the tapes/book it was most definitely Louis's version of the "Come to Me " song that Lestat made in season 1 something to get him so riled up that he would smash through rental properties in San Fran. to confront him Armand is the Patron saint of second-string bitches. Girlies who can & will kill everyone in this room & then themselves. People who have long suspected that there is a yawning, rotten emptiness inside of them, & who have yet to be proven wrong.

2024-09-14 20:06:44 +0000 UTCP.S. Unfortunately, I don't have many men in my life (family/friends) that are confident enough in their own skin to be so open and accepting of queer relationships. I loved your comment about wanting to watch more hot gay sex because YES! That is only one part of the show's many appealing aspects. As for your question about this show's lack of epic praise, I think it's moving that direction now that it dropped on Netflix. But I do think there are people out there who may try the show and shut it off because of the queer aspects of it. Anne Rice was unquestionably depicting all kinds of love in her novels, but they didn't actually have sex in the books -- the blood drinking and some kissing was more of the intimacy in early books -- so for the showrunners to lean into this, for me, was a beautiful thing to do. I guess people that are uncomfortable with anything except heterosexual relationships could withstand that as a book reader, but not when it's so open? I don't know. I don't understand it. I guess I just want to say thank you for that. It is so important to see people standing strong in their own identity and being wholly accepting of others. :)
Melissa
2024-09-14 19:22:34 +0000 UTCThere's so much to be said about this episode, but the headline for me is Assad Zaman's performance. He expressed so many different, layered, complex emotions in every scene. He terrified me, then I felt empathy for him, then I hated him, then I wanted to hug him. There are so many incredible actors on this show, but this performance is top 2 or 3 for me. Armand became a million times more interesting. Frank, I want to thank you for your reactions because even though I've watched this episode upwards of 6-7 times, you brought new interpretations and ideas to it for me. I was so angry and afraid of Armand in this episode that I never thought about how hard it would be to channel Lestat to Louis. I've always looked at that scene as manipulation -- like "Oh, you wanted Lestat?? Here he is!" -- like a threat and also a test. But there is also genuine grief and fear on Armand's face. Something you would probably only catch on a rewatch but Louis's character (and other scenes in the show) makes reference to "going into the sun/fire" so many times prior to him actually doing it. So much foreshadowing of the inevitable. The cinematography of his skin burning off is incredible. If I had to rank scenes from the series, the Louis/Armand fight scene is very very near to #1, and it may even be #1. When Assad BELLOWS at Louis, "THE NAME!" -- I can feel that in every part of my body. The rawness and power and pain. It lives rent-free in my head. And like many others have written, I have that fight memorized. :) How do you think this revelation might change things in the last 3 episodes with Louis/Armand and Daniel/Louis/Armand and Daniel/Armand? There's no forgetting this; that's for certain. When Louis starts mumbling under his breath about hearing Claudia calling him, oh my dear heart breaks. Jacob kills it as an actor in this episode, too, naturally. I am not an Armand defender (I'm someone who sees things from all sides or tries to), but can you imagine being with a partner for at least 20-25 years (in 1973) and feeling like you're always second not only to Lestat (who Armand also loved) and even Claudia but also to these random men and now this "boy" that Louis seems to have taken a liking to? Plus, it seems Louis is quite a mess: killing all of those young men, the drugs (which he ingests through them), the repressed emotions, etc. That vampire loneliness that Lestat mentioned in earlier episodes must really be unbearable because I'm not sure why you'd stay and stay and stay. I suppose for them even a bad relationship is still having someone with them. One of the most fascinating topics in this show, for me, is the power dynamics in all of the various relationships and how they impact the characters physical interactions, verbal communication, but especially the psychological impact they have. The use of "maitre" and "Arun" in this season and Claudia's (and Daniel's) frequent reference to "white master" and "slave" warrant an in-depth discussion. Add in age (human and vampire wise), all types of power (societal, physical, etc.), gender, sexual orientation, race . . . . you could write a dissertation on it. I really hope that's one of the topics you and FoxTaco discussed. :) As always, I'm looking forward to the rest of the episode reactions. Don't worry about saying "we" -- I always think of it like "we" is the audience and in these videos, you are the primary audience as you are the reactor. I think we all know you are not speaking for us. :) Thank you for sharing that story about your father. I had to stop the video, cry, and come back. It really hits home for me. I lost my mom in 2016, and while I am much older than you, I felt your pain because I've been irrevocably changed by her loss. I cannot imagine not having videos or recordings with her voice, and I'm truly saddened that you don't have that of your father. I am glad, however, that you remember his laugh and him talking in Nigerian. <3 Thanks for being YOU.

2024-09-14 19:13:13 +0000 UTCWhich is so sad and probably one of the reasons why all of his relationships are such a mess. He really needs to start finding and loving who he is as a vampire and then he can go on to fix his relationships or start building new ones.

2024-09-14 18:50:02 +0000 UTCTo be fair the full quote is "but she didn't love You, not like HE did not like I have" which is true the love that Louis is craving that makes him go stupid isn't the love that Claudia is able to give him as much as he would like to think he gets all he needs from her obviously from his actions she has never truly been enough for him mostly because he isnt even enough for himself.

2024-09-14 17:54:03 +0000 UTCas louis said, lestat is more of a sadist. i think back to when he drained the singer in s1 e2. whereas armand having to talk them through it⦠reassure them, « make them beg for itĀ Ā» to the point they give up trying and become comfortable with death, it feels equally fucked up but very different style from lestat. i like that. this episode made me sick, definitely felt the « itās like feeling guilty listening to your toxic neighbors having a horrendous argumentĀ Ā» the scene before louisā suicide attempt was intense. despite all his faults, flaws and manipulations, i felt bad for armand in this episode. more than i ever felt for lestat. donāt get me wrong theyāre both monsters but armandās backstory and the way he lashes out (granted itās absolutely evil and vicious) idk i just have more empathy for him than a character like lestat. it also probably helps that assad gave us such an epic performance. i saw people online say that lestat is more on some physical abuse whereas armand is emotional abuse and i donāt agree. i think they are both abusers in every sense. lestat mightāve been more physical because heās a sadist, but he also emotionally and psychologically abused both claudia and louis, wether it was his cruel words or his constant cheating. and armand even though he was more emotionally manipulative and abusive, he still let louis suffer agonizing pain instead of healing him right away. bruh this episode is my favorite of the entire show, just perfectly written and acted.

I'm sure you'll catch this yourself when you inevitably rewatch the episode, but the stuff Armand says at the end about preserving Louis' happiness and thinking Daniel would be fruitful in the future, are exactly the same words Louis says earlier in the episode. Armand's literally removed so much of his memory and then planted his own ideas. It's crazy. I loved how when Louis was thrashing Lestat, at first you were nodding along like yeeeah, and then as it progressed you were like "Oh, no, hold up.... this isn't true..." š Oh and seen as you said you can almost hear our voices, mine is an Irish accent - Colin Farrell would be the closest reference I can give to how I might sound, but female š

2024-09-14 16:31:50 +0000 UTCYou asked why Louis keeps calling Daniel āboyā in 1973. I think itās a distancing technique. He knows heās planning to kill Daniel so he doesnāt want to learn his name or get close to him. There may also be a power play thing going on, using that same word that the racists used against him when he was young in New Orleans to dehumanize Daniel a bit. Iām guessing Louis called all the men he killed in this time period āboyā the same way he did here. šŗ

2024-09-14 14:46:15 +0000 UTCI fell asleep before this was uploaded, but I'm up, got my breakfast and I'm ready for my FAVORITE episode of the whole damn show! Every second of this is insane and I just knew you'd eat this up. Daniel was definitely feeling some type of way when Louis said they never hooked up and joked about doing it now lol the man spent the last 50 years thinking he had sex Louis that night and I'm betting that played a part in him being willing to come back for this interview. Disco biscuits was the slang for a club drug that was really popular in the 70s, also called "ludes". It's not a stretch to say that many of us have rewatched this specific episode SO many times, we have Louis and Armand's whole fight memorized...it's just crazy. AND I don't know if you know this, but this episode was the first to be filmed for the new season. Can you imagine Assad Zaman, after filming a whole season as "Rashid", mostly lurking in the back of scenes and just doing really subtle acting, suddenly coming on set, first day and just...going so fucking hard! Armand is a scary dude, but I love Assad Zaman so much for what he's done with this character. I'm sure other people said it, but I wanted to mention...Anne Rice is the mind behind these characters but Rolin Jones and the writers of this show took a LOT of creative liberties with this show and a lot of the greatness in the show is based on the platform Anne Rice provided, but adapted and changed in a way that is just as amazing, but incredibly different. And this episode is a good example, because basically NONE of this happens in the book. They came up with the idea of there being 2 separate interviews for the show. I love Armand and on first watch I had a lot of sympathy for him in this episode, but through rewatches I can't help but read even his most compassionate act of putting Louis in the coffin and feeding him his blood to heal as...malicious. Because why did he wait days to do it, allowing Louis to linger in pain and slowly burn from the bits of sunlight streaming through the windows? But Assad is so compelling and endearing that I think it's natural and expected to feel for Armand. Even when he spent this episode torturing poor Daniel lol Please rewatch the hell out of this episode lmao you will only benefit from it lol I love the love you have for Daniel so much! He's lowkey the mvp rn. Taking the initiative to figure out what the fuck happened and he unlocked those memories for both him and Louis. And him reading out what Louis said to him always gets me emotional. Daniel has lived such a dangerous life, physically through his drug use and dangerous journalism, but also psychologically. And whether intentional or not, through vampiric compulsion or not, Louis has kept him alive, kept him going for 50 YEARS! They're so intrinsically linked together its insane. Idk what flower emoji to use, but š· some of my recommendations are Arcane, Midnight Mass, and Beef

2024-09-14 12:30:16 +0000 UTCOne more thing I want to say is yes, Daniel pokes and prods but that is quite literally his job. He is a well respected 2x Peabody award winning investigative journalist, he is not a fiction writer or a biographer he is a journalist. Louis and Armand invited a journalist into their home, sat in front of him and either straight up lied or told half truths, and expected him to what, just sit there and accept it. Not a chance. They thought he would be easily controllable and are finding out the hard way that a dying 70 year old man with decades of experience in finding the truth and nothing to lose, cannot be controlled. Also after seeing what they did to him in this episode, in my opinion he can speak to them however he wants.

2024-09-14 10:31:35 +0000 UTCGreat, Great, Great reaction & discussion ! So the episodes would drop early Sunday morning around 2 or 3 am on the APP & then premier live on tv that Sunday night. This episode made me call out of work it was so much. I love that it centers Louis, Armand, & Daniel past & present. Made me love & feel for Daniel so much more. Masterfully done. Acting, writing, cinematography, effects, makeup, drama, Horror on 100!! I cannot wait to see them take this series Supersonic. I think season 3 is going to open things up to a level book fans have only dreamed of. *** Also you are soo Spot on about Lestat LOVING being Loved/Hated. I just finished rereading/listening to The Vampire Lestat (book 2 of the chronicles) . That just goes to show you how masterful the writers of this show are Locked in really portraying these characters .

2024-09-14 10:08:17 +0000 UTCAnne Rice is a legend but in this ep the writers were jamming hard! A stand out gem for me together with the penultimate one. The way it ends is not from the book, OG Louis wouldn't have as much incentive, although Armand's behavior is spot on given a different narrative. There's no second interview, to begin with. Daniel has matured and got wiser. This adaptation with all reverence to AR is meatier and bolder than the 1st book. Ideal for TV!

2024-09-14 10:04:40 +0000 UTCThis is my favourite episode of the whole show, it's incredible. Everyone brought their A game, as they do every episode. One thing that I really grew to love this season is Louis and Daniel's friendship, and that moment when Daniel reads out what Louis said to him always makes me cry. As Daniel said he destroyed everything in his life with his drug use but he stayed a journalist, because of Louis words he had a lifeline, something to ground him just enough to never go too far. Who knows where he might have ended up without that. š» If you want a show to replace this one the answer is Hannibal. The first time I watched IWTV I thought to myself "This gives me major Hannibal vibes". Also Hannibal has Mads Mikkelsen, enough said.

2024-09-14 10:02:52 +0000 UTCSoon as I watched the end of this episode the first time and Armand repeated what Louis told Daniel at the start when Daniel asked him why Armand saved him-"...I had a hunch he would prove fruitful..." I remembered the little jab Daniel made in a previous episode when he asked the vampires if "they were going to keep finishing each other's sentences." I thought it was cute and funny at the time, because that's usually framed as a romantic thing where you know the person so well you know what they're going to say, but then I rewatched everything and noticed several other distinct moments where Louis suddenly starts speaking very similarly to how Armand does seemingly out of nowhere... Also great catch regarding the similarity between the way Santiago "gets them to beg for it" and Armand convinces people they want an "easeful death." Armand's method also kind of reminds me of Lestat in episode 2 with the Tenor and the way he tore at the poor guy's insecurities before he killed him. Something else I literally just noticed, about Lestat speaking to Louis through Armand, is that every time we've heard Lestat say the words "I love you" to Louis outright [I'm not counting The Sky Drop because it was part of a larger sentence and not a declaration] have been when Louis wanted to or was considering dying: First was in season 1 episode 1 in the church after Louis told the priest he wanted to die and Lestat killed the priest(s), then in season 1 episode 6 when he whispered it to Louis before Claudia left for the train, and Lestat went after her -"[Louis] is in a terrible state...he needs you [Claudia] now, more than ever"- and now in this episode where Armand calls and tells him Louis has injured himself, and I assume Lestat has guessed why. The fact Armand couldn't bring himself to say "I love you" for Lestat, and just not saying anything before he essentially hangs up on him drives me crazy because what is Lestat supposed to think happened exactly?? If somebody called me like "hey your ex who you still love is thinking of you again, and they hurt themself, do you want to talk to them?" only to HANG UP ON ME....omg. And the fact that Lestat still wants to make sure Louis knows he loves him even after the whole throat slitting thing...geeze. This episode is a lot of peoples' favorite of the whole two seasons out right now for good reason. Just spectacular all around! Couldn't spend more than 15 minutes on social media without seeing people quoting Louis and Armand back when this episode came out lol. I live for the memes, whoever photoshopped Armand's face on a beige pillow is my hero LOL Can't wait for the last 3 episodes! [Insert flower emoji I don't have bc I'm on my laptop here]

2024-09-14 09:56:07 +0000 UTCI totally agree. For me the show is actually better than the books (no shade for anyone who loves the books more). Because Rolin took everything that I had issues with about the series and somehow fixed it and everything I loved he made even better. I swear to me this man is magic at the moment, I'm riding a high and I want to trust it but I have been fooled before so I'm being cautious with my heart (well about as cautious as Louis was falling in love with Lestat, so we'll see how that works out for me).

2024-09-14 09:32:50 +0000 UTCWe will make a whole ass thread at the end of episode eight and talk about all the things that were too spoilery for the individual episode comments, because girl I have so much to get off my chest, and so many opinions that are probably so full of spoilers that I don't even remember are spoilers anymore. It's especially hard having read the books because I'm like - I know stuff, I know a lot of stuff and sometimes I simply forget that this stuff is not actually common knowledge nor has it appeared in the episode(s) (or might never appear because this is an adaptation and they are doing things differently) . So yes, I feel you and I'm already preparing my rant š Edit: Also YES; Armand unspooling the tapes is one of my favorite details! Because it is so casually cruel and he does it so nonchalantly and I'm just sitting here thinking, "Daniel probably spent hours with these people, trying to get it right, trying to make a living and you torture him, draw out his deepest darkest secrets and then mock him for his passion on top of that. Dude, I get you are hurt but wrong target for the anger, really."

2024-09-14 09:24:55 +0000 UTCAmazing reaction as always, i've been waiting for this episode !! it's so intense especially the loumand fight, throwing their dirty laundry at e/o. i've watched it so much i know that part by heart š just for context, so you know what came from Anne Rice and what was added by the show runners (no spoilers i swear, but still, feel free to skip if you don't wanna know yet) : - anne's book only present the first interview in san francisco, where daniel molloy doesn't have a name yet, he's only referred to as "the boy", and it stops right after "the boy" asks to be turned into a vampire and louis gets offended (in that interview, louis does talk about the whole paris arc tho) - the whole second interview in dubai is an addition, san francisco armand also doesn't happen in the book - and i don't want to get into too much detail bc you could write pages on it, but just a lot of it was heavily modified (and thank god tbh š ) so this episode man!!!!! armand!!! louis and daniel putting together the past again!! i was buzzing in my seat yes the books are a fantastic goldmine for vampire lore but this show takes the best of it and elevates it to so much more so huge shout out to everyone who worked on this show !! i just want them to get the credits they deserve š·

2024-09-14 06:45:16 +0000 UTCI am UP and I am watching. Will edit later. Eeeee! So excited. To what you said about this show not being as popular as it should be. YES. A lot of us think that. I donāt think itās the queerness honestly, I think itās that they had it on AMC+, 1) AMC is terrible at marketing even when they have the best shows, and 2) lots of people didnāt want to get another streaming platform just for this show. Now that they have S1 on Netflix, I think that will change a bit though Iām still so confused why itās not in the top 10 on there. Ah, another amazing reaction! Love hearing your thoughts. Man, Assad Zaman put his entire Armandussy into this episode. The acting from all of them is just spectacular. Armand was terrifying but he looked so damn beautiful doing it. This episode really makes you peel so many layers back from the story weāve heard so far. Whatās true? Whatās half true? Whatās plain inaccurate? I love how Jacob portrays so so many sides to Louis in this episode ā him in the present day, beginning of the episode almost talking like heās in a cult or itās rehearsed, toward the end, his accent coming back a little, his demeanor changing, to him realizing heās been saying Armandās words verbatim on an almost automatic reel when asked certain questions. I loved him and Daniel teaming up together. Their friendship is everything to me. Louis is definitely the founding member of the Lestat fan club. Cannot get that man out of his head, even if heās bitter and trash talking. If only there were vampire therapy, but who needs that when you have the leader of the sassy man apocalypse, Daniel Molloy?! 2024-09-14 06:25:54 +0000 UTCOh, I'm so here for this. Let's get into the nitty-gritty of things but first things first: šø 12 Monkeys (2015) -> is based on the movie from 1995. It's one of my absolute favorite TV shows because it also asks so many interesting moral questions. I think you would enjoy it simply because there is just so much to talk about and dissect. [completed] šø Dark -> Actually has a similar vibe to 12 Monkeys so definitely also a recommendation from me. [completed] šø The Bear -> Totally different energy; like in no way comparable to IWTV but a great show. Is probably a better fit for "the Wire" crowd and not necessarily for the IWTV but it has some really great portrayals of grief, ambition, love, and just human emotions and relationships in general. A lot of people felt let down by the third season though, I personally really liked it but I guess it really depends on what you were expecting to get. [on going] Also, season two has eight episodes! So you still have three episodes to watch, enjoy them! The season three teaser is really not spoiler-y, so you really should watch it after finishing season two. It tells you so much and next to nothing at the same time, and it is so, so much fun! I totally get where you are coming from with wanting Claudia to be more powerful but that is exactly the conundrum and tragedy of Claudia because she would definitely be a really strong vampire if she had been a fully grown adult when she was turned. But because she was only fourteen her body couldn't really handle the transformation and on top of that society will always see her as a child or at least as a teenager which to most adults is a child. So yeah... it is really very, very sad. "His methodology is never violent, I assure you" š I love you, Louis, really, but who are you kidding? Certainly not Daniel, nope, try again my friend. "Someone half in love with an easeful death"? So ... you, Louis, right? Let's be honest Louis has been dealing with depression, grief, and suicidal tendencies on and off since Paul died. Paul, Claudia, Grace, Lestat, his own sense of self, he has been and still is grieving for all of them. All of these vampires are so tragic in their own ways. And I love them all, which is why I suffer. On the other hand, every episode is my favorite episode because no matter which characters appear my favorites (all of them) are always there. So... you win some, you lose some, right? Every time you commented on Armand in Daniel's head this episode and also in some previous episode reactions I was like - no, Frank, it's something he has already done to him, not something he is doing to him and I'm so glad that you know that now because I can finally talk about our little gremlin! Because now you know that he actually is a little gremlin (not that that makes me love him any less or makes him any less tragic, I just think you should tell it like you see it). It is also why I have been trying to refrain from commenting on Armand's actions and his relationship with Louis (and Claudia) before now because I have been so afraid that I might dip into spoiler territory because I have a lot of opinions about all of this. (Which I will share after episode 8) I'm so there with you on the hot gay sex scene but also just Daniel Molloy. The man owns my heart, and young Daniel is such a puppy. The boy thing is mainly a reference to the books I think, because in the first book Daniel is only known as the boy. And yes, Daniel was definitely hurt - at least a little bit. But look at Louis, who wouldn't be. The Lestat rant! (The odyssey of recollection, btw.) The vicious, vulgar villain and his beloved husband in the same breath. I think it should be remembered that everything we know of Lestat we have gotten from outside POVs (Louis, Armand, Claudia) and that all these narrators have a reason for telling their story in a specific way. That does not mean that the story is false or a lie for that matter but it also does not mean that it is necessarily the truth. It can just be the feelings and impressions of a moment. I think that's also what they tried to show when Claudia wrote in her diary that she does not dream and then Louis remembers her dreaming. That sometimes people just say and write things that are not necessarily true but are the narrative that they are telling themselves, have chosen for themselves, because it is easier to bear - more palatable- than a nuanced or more grey-shade picture of the story. And I think that is okay, necessary even, but it's something to be aware of. The fight between Louis and Armand is an absolutly amazing bit of acting. I was on the edge of my seat when I first listened to it. And then the heartbreak of Louis spiraling, hearing Claudia call to him and walking into the sun and the whispered, "I'm remembering it now". Heartbreaking all around. I disagree with your take on Armand's "curious" and Louis and Lestat's relationship in some aspects but I'm only gonna get into the first part of this because 1.) spoiler 2.) I get where you are coming from, I just don't agree. So back to the "curious", I always thought that Armand has very rarely heard Louis talk about Lestat (referenced to as "the name unuttered in our home for 23 years", and "it's not exactly how you've talked to me about him") but that it does not fit his own perception of Lestat and it is also not what he thinks Louis thinks of Lestat. (Louis has started hunting humans back in the 1930s | around 1940 and his last kill according to Louis was around 2000. 1973 was definitely a bender year for him.) Armand and Daniel (!) I can't talk about that because I have so much to say, so just; I love this dynamic and to borrow Armand's favorite word of the episode I think they are so fascinating, so here we are and I'll get back to you at the end of the season on that as well as on Dreamstat (edit: and the fantasy dialog). At heart, Daniel is still an (over-)eager puppy with all the warmth and openness but he has grown out his claws and fangs and he knows how to use them now and I just really appreciate Old!Daniel. Love him to bits and pieces. Something I totally missed the first time watching it, was that Daniel was there for four days (and I mean I know they said it and I heard it but still) and that only on the fourth day, Armand called Lestat. I think it was mainly because they were wearing the same clothes the whole time which I get for Louis and Daniel but why is Armand still in the same get up? I want to say so much about the fantasy dialog and Armand and Louis' relationship as a whole but so many possible spoiler traps - so once again, call me when you are done with the show. But I think Daniel & Louis are narrating this part together. But we are getting some Armand/outside POV as well since we are actively hearing Lestat and neither Daniel nor Louis would've been able to and since Armand is not joining them on their little trip down memory lane it has the feeling of an outside omniscient narrator. "A bright young reporter with a point of view", we've heard these words so many times in these two seasons and I love that it is also a call back to the opening of the series. It appears in the first episode and I love that it comes full circle here and that we find out that Louis was the one to tell him that. I love their friendship. I'm only adding this because you said it was okay to point out things that happened within the episode, so I really hope that I'm not ruining anything for you with this one. At the end of the episode, Armand says word for word what Louis said to Daniel when he asked him why Armand spared him. Which goes to show that Armand has edited Louis' memory as Daniel had suggested. Because Daniel was like, "why don't you remember" and Louis was like "well, I was in pain" which fair but there is inaccuracy because of pain and there is a black-out "don' t remember a single thing" because my boyfriend played brain surgeon. And as you said we have had Louis question his own narrative before, with the photos, or the rain, or the diary entries, so knowing that someone might have actually edited his memory must have sent him reeling in a way that I find hard to even imagine. You really should rewatch the episode, there is still so much to find and I have watched the episode like for the eighth time and I still find things I missed the first time around.
