I have one memory where I'm sleeping over at my grandmother's house and I couldn't sleep because the "giant worms will get me!" My grandmother didn't dismiss me, she just told me that she had way too many big rocks in her yard (which she did, we grandkids called them the "rock play grounds" - they were huge buried boulders all around where she lived.) and it did the trick! LOL I was like, "Oh! You're right! Phew!" and went to sleep.
