I thought you were really on point about how scary and toxic Lestat came off, while also being very seductive. The show really sold how Louis would’ve succumbed to his charms in that situation. This is one of my favorite shows to watch reactions to (I promise no spoilers though) - everyone's perspectives keep rewatches even more interesting, and I'm always learning something new. Something specific that stuck out to me in this episode: I loved your thought about Louis paying Miss Lilly to talk to her because he doesn't have other people in his life he felt he could really trust to talk to. I had been seeing her "we usually just talk" comment on such a basic level - didn't think anything other than her implying he was using her to make the town think he's straight (and she was willing to go along with it). Their trust probably growing so much during their meetings that he also felt totally comfortable being completely himself and confiding in her legit hadn't occurred to me, but I think you're totally spot on. (And that makes Lestat killing her at the end of the episode even more cruel. 😞) Anyway, can't wait to watch the rest along with you! Thanks for sharing!

Just to clarify, I think when Louis said that he didn't consider himself to be homosexual at the time, he just meant that he was in denial about it/couldn't be open about it because it was 1910, not because he wasn't actually interested in men back then. That's why he says later that he's accepted his sexuality. That's basically why Lestat invited Miss Lily to their little tryst. He knew it would give Louis the psychological cover he needed to pretend, at least initially, that it was about her instead of his desire for Lestat.

I will definitely come back to this many times Dark romance. I didn't even know that was a genre. I might need to dip my toes more into that. Lestat doesn't hold back at all. Jesus Christ that guy's brutal Honestly with how good this is, I can't imagine the original movie being better. I may watch it later on just out of curiosity. So that's probably not talk about it till I'm done with the first two seasons, just in case spoilers

I was completely captivated when I first watched it, and I’m still obsessed with Louis & Lestat’s performances in that last scene. It’s totally ok to have mixed feelings. The series (books included) is definitely dark romance. So yes, definite toxic & at times abusive things going on. I mean, Lestat literally punched a man’s head in 10 seconds before manipulating & love bombing Louis into accepting vampirism - classic abusive & cultish behavior…minus the fist through the skull part 😅 Are you planning to watch the movie with Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt? Just asking so we can know if it’s ok to talk about it or if you don’t want spoilers.

Cruise didn’t get even close to frightening. And when he first bit him, he didn’t change him. I believe Luis explained it by saying something like “it was just a little snack.” Oh… and when he punched the second priest, my face did the same as yours! 😧

Instance classic for me. I think your wife would love it too. I ran to my wife after the first episode and told her about how good it was. Literally, this first episode was so good that it could be its own short film and would be perfect. Happy to hear that it gets better. I absolutely love movies and shows that have great to replay value. Always something to catch. I would definitely check out the after-the-show interview. Those are my favorite things to watch after episodes. After watching Chernobyl, House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, etc .. Love love watching those interview I haven't even read the book or seen the movies but I can absolutely believe that this is way better than them. Because if any of those were better than this show, then I definitely would have heard about them by now. Same here. I hope those Die Hard fans find me on YouTube. I could really use it. And any crowd that loves a show like this is definitely my crowd

It's always a good time when adaptations can do that. And thank you so much for keeping your excitement at bay and not revealing some of the answers. I know it's a no-brainer, but you would be surprised how much people spoil stuff just out of excitement. Can't wait to watch more😄

This is one of, if not the best pilot episode of any show I’ve ever seen. And it just gets better from here! And season 2 is even better. I won’t spoil anything, except to say that you need to rethink your expectations of humanity, because these are monsters after all 🤷🏽♀️. AMC does an “after the show” interview with the show runner, producer, writers and actors to explain the episode and dig a little deeper into. It’s definitely worth watching, but it also shows the next week’s preview first. Check it out and scroll past the preview. Anyway, I wanted you to watch because I love that you pay attention to the dialogue when watching shows and really catch what’s happening. The dialogue is very important and words are not wasted in this show. When you watch it back, you’ll always see a few nuances that you missed. They have taken liberties from the novels and movies and made Louis’ character black and moved the timeline from the 1700’s to the early 1900’s. I personally like the tv show and what they’ve done with the characters better than the books, definitely better than the movie, but that’s me. This show has diehard fans online, so I think they’ll love a new reviewer to watch along with. I know I’m looking forward to it and I’ve actually watched both seasons a few times now.

It was tons of fun to see you appreciate all the things this show gets right! For a show that has no shortage of fantastical elements (understatement) it’s amazing how incredibly real it feels on all levels. This show has me swooning no matter how many times I watch it - acting, setting, costume design, story, etc etc are all 11/10s. Having seen the 1994 movie and read the book, this series has managed to eclipse its source material by leagues and bounds imo. I'm so excited to rewatch the rest of it with you! There's so much I want to say re: some of the questions you'd raised but I feel like this show is one of those where it's best to let things unfold/let the answers come in time so I'll hold off until we're further along in the series. ;)
