It bothers him that he couldn't properly be the adult towards rudreus because of how gifted and smart he is. he puts his insecurities on rudeus and has big expectations due to rudeus upbringing and undermines the fact that as far as paul knows he is a kid. Which is why i always was against paul being angry at rudeus in millis as he is expecting rudeus to do something he himself isn't able to do. He hasn't found his family he is counting on rudeus to have done work. Which is hypocritical and bad and i think its less i think its more a i'm shit my son is a genius he can do better type of thing than him actually being jealous of rudeus i think he does appreciate how talented his son is.

Like paul is not my personal favorite but he is a very good character and liked for that so when people say paul is the best mushoku tensei i'm just like you know he is not my favorite but i can see it him being one of the best characters is definitely something you could ague for.

2025-01-21 01:08:02 +0000 UTCOne thing to add, while it was 100% rudys mistake that caused paul to die. He had valid reasons to be slipping, 2 things they didn't point out in the anime. The hydra was SO BIG that when rudy fought it up close, he couldn't use his eye powers well, because it was so big that he couldn't keep the entire thing in his field of view that close. This is also the most difficult close quaters fight rudy has had, and he's never had to fight as close as this to do effective dmg. Rudy fumbled, but it was really just so far out of his comfort zone in fighting, that paul even anticipated it. Which is why he managed to save him in time. He was aware of rudy's struggles in the fight too.
