Y’all, this is a metaphor for capitalism. The game this is based on, The Outer Worlds, is a satirical take on capitalism, set in a future where companies have taken over everything, and workers are exploited and abused. Felicity is the embodiment of capitalism itself—an idea that promises progress and prosperity but, in reality, thrives on taking advantage of others. Amos is the textbook working-class man: honest, hardworking, and upright. This story is a metaphor for the working class pouring their heart, soul, and labor—and in Amos’s case, even his actual body parts—into the belief that Felicity will create something good for everyone. But the truth is that Amos, like the working class, is being exploited for his integrity and hard work. Felicity, representing corporations, uses him as a stepping stone, climbing to the top at his expense. In the end, Amos is left with nothing—not even his arms or legs—while Felicity thrives, looking out only for herself. It’s a brutal reflection of how the working class sacrifices so much, even their own bodies in dangerous jobs, believing in the promise of a better future, only to be left behind in the dirt. Amos’s story mirrors the reality of workers everywhere who give their labor and lives to companies, only to be discarded and forgotten when there’s nothing left to take.
