He doesn’t honor his word and use the law for personal vendettas. Regardless if he’s putting away criminals he’s still going against the law to do so and that wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t think his way was all about justice and he was all the way good while doing it

2024-05-31 07:33:56 +0000 UTCcampbell looks down on everyone who is authoritatively below him (which is pretty much everyone because of his position) yet consistently acts like them and does the same shit he berates them for. he's a hypocrite. he works hard to maintain his image as a high-ranking officer but its all a facade for his bruised ego. he don't gaf about the law. he wanted to kill grace because he thought he deserved her, and when he lost her to someone he saw as beneath him, it hurt his pride. the shelbys have never tried to facade their true selves or hide their image behind their profession.

Calling Evan biased cuz he called Inspector Campbell's action of threatening to go lawless to catch tommy as "Holier than thou" ACTUALLY MADE NO SENSE. Like what does that even mean "he's biased". But that 3v1 post ep argument was HILARIOUS. Its only the great shows that extract such convos. One Day Ozarks will be that show as well

2024-05-31 02:40:29 +0000 UTCEvan is right there the whole situation with the three characters was to show Campbell thinks he is so much higher than the rest of the "low people", and yes he does hate criminals and the Peaky Blinders but the thing that really got to him was the fact that the love of his life chose Tommy, a lowly gangster, over him, a high ranking officer representing the crown. You can see that his ego is fragile when it comes to Tommy and when he takes his girl from him is the turning point where he feels like Tommy actually got the better of him and he wants revenge.

They’re layered characters —- that’s not a contradiction of who they are. Campbell claims to be one of the good guys but does bad things. That’s a contradiction because he’s not who he thinks he is. He’s probably the most “evil” character of this season. He commits heinous acts and justifies it because they’re against “beasts” or “animals.” But, he’s actually the least humane of them all. He has no self awareness. He’s only fond of Grace because he thinks of her as an equal worthy of him. He went to shoot her not because she broke the law but because she hurt his pride. And Evan is right…he’s a creep. He’s written that way…hence the weird proposal and aggressive sex scene.
