imma be that guy. the bathhouse is a reference to a sex house, so yes she was bascially told to sell her body for money, its actually a pretty dark theme to the movie.. and if anyone wants to argue the point dont waste your breath. the creator and writer of the movie said themselves it was talking about prostitution. and thats what he intended it to do.

Miyazaki's movies are so confusing at times because he layers multiple storylines and themes. His writing style is also very non-linear. It's as if the rising and falling action, climax, intro, and resolution are happening all at the same time. Once you get used to his writing style, you'll know what to look for in his movies.

I was excited to rewatch this movie with yall. Its been 10yrs since i last saw it and omg i realized the beauty of this movie. It captures the essence of a coming of age story that lets us travel with chihiro progress a character in a “fantasy land” and use it her life in the real world. Thats why the plot seems to randomly progress.

Easily the best anime movie of all time as it’s the only one to win an Oscar and for good reason. At first, I didn’t understand what this movie even was about, but just the quality and flow of it was special enough to sweep me off my feet and truly feel ‘Spirited Away’
