It not only helps give context in movies about war, but it help you get a way better understanding of how our world is. Not much changes when it comes to governments and war. Only the strategy changes.

Plus it would be way more accurate and easier to understand than someone trying to explain the war in comments, but ill explain the gist of it. WW1 also known as ‘The great war’ started on June 28, 1914 and ended on November 11th, 1918) It was a war between the triple entente which included france, great britain, and russia vs the triple alliance which included austria-hungary, The German Empire(They are not Nazis yet, not until around the late 20s),and Italy(tho italy stayed neutral first and actually joined the allies for exchange of land in 1915) There were more countries involved like the ottomans and bulgarians on the austrian/german side, Serbians on the french side. So there was fighting all over europe. The war began because Archduke franz ferdinand of Austria was assassinated and they traced the assassination to be of Serbian doing. Alliances cause war to spread through Europe. The US stays isolated and doesnt even join the war until mid to late 1917. This movie takes place in France as that was the front the french and British fought on.
