My bad I should’ve elaborated that spilling your guts out just kills you really slowly so having a second(assistant) is necessary to make it swift because the longer a person is bleeding out the more time they have to have regrets and dishonourable displays and also the second is always expected to perform the beheading in one blow because if it takes more than one blow it brings shame upon the second for not being able to beautifully behead someone in a single movement, sometimes people do commit seppku without a second but then it involves cutting horizontally and then moving to a vertical cut, most of the time it’s with a second of Kaishakunin who is responsible for the beheading

2024-04-21 05:31:20 +0000 UTCone thing tho is that if ishido suceeds then the rest of the lords being held hostage will just pretend nothing happened, for toranaga to invade he'll need a survivor to tell the public and testify that ishido planned this so an invasion is warranted, by doing it in the night ishido can just deny that it was him because all the people he captured will be locked in the castle and no word will come out, im thinking maybe Blackthorne will survive escape and testify

2024-04-21 05:17:46 +0000 UTCIf you want to make a GOT comparison, there's a rule where you're not supposed to harm your guests at your home after a truce, that's one of the reasons why the red wedding was such a big deal, this is a more traditional take on it. ishido lied about allowing a respected vassal to stay only to try and kill them (he actually wanted to capture her, but she made it look like it by her own hands like he killed her)
