While all the technology advanced, fossil fuels, and natural resources ran out causing widespread war for control of resources to fuel and power their nation, nuclear energy became the main source of power and research on nuclear energy increased. Eventually, everything switched from gas or coal powered to nuclear powered. Be it cars, robots, power armor, and more. People have learned from the games thag the fallout history before ww2 is almost identical to our history, but sometime around the end of WW2 the fallout universe takes a different route than our universe. We focused on computers technology, fallouts universe focuses on nuclear energy. I think the 50s style and aesthetic was mostly just a style choice because of the irony. But im pretty sure i saw an explanation a while back on fan wikis. Not sure of the credibility of that tho so ill keep it out lol.

2024-04-14 19:16:21 +0000 UTCYes, and the show takes place in 2296. Everything just has a retro look to it but the civilization as a whole was very advanced. Obviously though as someone who has played the games itβs easy to grasp that but I can understand how it can be confusing.
