Beom Seok has been bullied all his life, at home and at school. He's for sure someone with extreme low self-esteem, and an inferiority complex (because of the extreme abuse). He's socially inept too. So every little bits of attention he can get does matter, even if it's for something as trivial as a picture and a follow (especially as a teen/teens just don't have that maturity yet). He doesn't know how to navigate real relationships, so he turns to superficial ones.

I think he felt lower in the group rather than equal because everyone knows they can fight and defend themselves and he can’t. So with the bullies he may feel like equally accepted
