2024-02-23 16:59:50 +0000 UTCI hear you, my problem is I don't see any of the subtlety your talking about. I think I'm just too close to the cartoon. Honestly Some of the changes I absolutely love i do,but then there are others just feel are unnecessary. And if the show was given more episodes and a longer time to cook I'd feel less apprehensive.

Instead of a whole episode subplot about Aang getting too cocky, we get a small scene of him basking in the attention the kids are giving him. Then later he’s brought back to reality with the talk with Kyoshi. A different path but imo it’s still the same message. Same thing with Sokka. He isn’t sexist anymore, but he still goes through the process of being cocky, then humbled, then earning mutual respect for Suki. As long as the live action can still hit the same story beats and messages I’m ok with changes.

As an OG fan, I’m really liking the adaption so far. Zuko is my favorite character in the cartoon but it looks like that position is going to Sokka this time around.

They removed Sokka’s sexist traits in this adaption so they had to fill the void of that conflict with Suki being a lot more forward in her attraction to Sokka this time around so it did feel off at certain points. Overall though, I feel like both actors did a good job and the episode was pretty good. Aang had the scene of him playing with the kids and using his signature air scooter so I thought that was a nice touch.

Honestly this whole episode feels off like it's missing key elements, some of the interactions that were cut/removed from the show for timing/ pacing damages the characters. like I think Aang is way to serious him riding on the elephant koi and having the girls chasing him around would've made me feel a little better.
