Yeah, see that’s the thing. Rufus making Gray forget a spell actually doesn’t matter. Because Gray’s magic allows him to make any new spell he wants on the fly. It’s why I actually don’t understand why Mavis said he was a poor matchup. He’s actually the perfect counter because nobody else has an ability that lets them to do that and has a specific number of spells they currently have. Like if Rufus erases Juvia’s water body, water slicer, water nebula, etc. she’s got nothing. Same thing with Gajeel’s Iron DS spells. Gray could mold his ice into something new every time Rufus erases one.

Oh wow. I figured Pat was wrong about the battle count, but wanted to fact check and uh…yeah. At this point in the story Erza and Gray have had the exact same amount of fights lmao. 10 Battles-8 wins, 2 losses each. (Bickslow/Hidden game for Gray and Jose/Jellal for Erza). And while Erza does indeed face stronger enemies (she’s S-Class, she better be), both of Gray’s losses were due to cheap tactics/outright cheating being used. So it balances out.

Yeah, the way Gray won is legit the only thing you can do. And it makes sense. I have a photographic memory myself and a lot of people mistake that to mean “Perfect memory”. But there’s still only so much a person’s brain can remember at once. And Rufus is still a human, not a machine (heck, even then you could still overload a machine like that). So it’s simple but effective. Shoutout to Wellz for being big brain and figuring out the other flaw in Rufus’ magic early as well. Because yeah any spell he uses still isn’t as strong as the person he got it from.

I know a lot of people like to say Gray won because of plot armor, but to me it's clear that Rufus has a glaring weakness despite how op he is. The key to defeating him is overwhelming him, and making him unable to focus or memorize, and that's what Gray did. He used a spell that overwhelmed Rufus then speed blitzed when Rufus was distracted. Anyways, can't wait for the next 2 arcs since they focus a lot more on Gray and will hopefully make them put some respect on Gray again.

If you mean ''number two'' as being Natsu's Sasuke, Erza is not that. Gray is. Erza is a mix of Gojo, Levi, and Zoro. Although they're close in age, she's more like a mentor and supporter to Natsu. Those are FT fights in a nutshell. Main characters get their ass beat a bunch of times then they give a corny friendship speech then proceed to 1 shot the opponent with bullshit we've never seen before.
