They literally explained everything in the episode. The last commandment had nothing to do with a sacrifice; it said prove your faith to God. The test was to stay there and stare at the statues to keep them from moving until all of the blue flames (timer) went out. That would’ve proved their faith in the god. If they closed their eyes, or ran, the statues would keep coming and kill everyone. The only reason he survived is because the last blue flame went out before the final blow landed. Idk if the ones who ran are still alive but had they all stayed, presumably, they would’ve all received the same reward he did. It certainly wasn’t a simulation.

I think the basketball analogy works if the team you've been beating tells you they have another team they could call up and you assume they're teenagers because if you saw off rip what the other team looks like you could make a better decision on going through with it or not and in the show they didn't go into the second dungeon until they opened the door. I guarentee you if they saw the statues before heading down the majority would've stayed back.

Yeah they are adapting parts of the light novel as shown in the first episode where there were countless scenes of characters that were introduced later on in the Manhwa but they were shown just like this in the novel. Which is good since the novel as you said tells the story better with better world building, character interactions, and etc. than the Manhwa

I heard they’re actually adapting the story of the light novel (which is actually what the manwha is based on) so I think we’re getting the best of both worlds. Because the Manwha leaves out some stuff the light novel has. I think the light novel tells a better story even tho it’s not that much better
