And Ultear is absolutely a fantastic villain. She’s been in the show since the start and has had the most consistent presence out of any villain so far. Even without the tragic backstory, she would still be a great villain because she has faucets regardless. She always has been acting as a right hand to somebody but always ready to screw them over. Remember, she also did it with Lyon at the beginning. And the best part is there’s even more great writing for her character to come. The whole Gray/Ultear/Ur subplot is absolutely fantastic. And honestly my favorite subplot in the series.

One of Gray’s biggest strengths is that he’s very clever and tactical with how he uses his magic. Which as was alluded to by Ur is the whole point of Ice Make Magic “I feel this one gives you the most creative freedom.” It’s all about being creative and intuitive. Which allows him to find ways around more powerful magic as you saw here.

The only legitimate loss I can think of is against Bickslow but that was only because of Freed's help that Bickslow got the upper hand, other than that Gray took care of most of his opponents, even against people Natsu couldn't beat.
