Late to comment but I liked the flashback. I welcomed it in between all of the fighting and felt it was needed for the pacing, as there is more insane action to come. I like that JJK does these like psychological dives into characters that are as contrived as the human mind tends to be. It feels like Gege is exploring these ideas with the reader, not as a lecturer, but as a student himself. I don't get what was so bad about it. I for one am glad it wasn't something overtly tragic or violent and that everyone has their own motivations for doing things, and for some people those motivations can be very vague or not straightforward or something that ultimately means nothing and just goes in a circle. Nanami was similar in tone. Just very human and grounded reasons for being where they were, but that didn't make their reasons less important or interesting to me. Nobara's whole thing is something very real that happens in Japan. There ARE a lot of people who have been run out of country side villages like this. People HAVE had their homes vandalized like Saori's was just for being different. This flashback explores that and does it in a way that is quite realistic if you were to go into someone's head and see what they were thinking. Did Nobara make opps out of people that were bad? Or were they just people stuck in their ways, but not bad people overall? It seemed that was the conclusion reached here, that it wasn't all that bad after all. But it is also left somewhat open to interpretation. She in a sense cursed herself or was cursed by the culture; The clash between traditionalism and modernism, the desire of some to stand out in a society that doesn't do well with that, all set to the tone of "thing's aren't as bad as I'm making them out to be despite what I just said". Using Smash Bros as a prop was more than just fan service to me, it grounded the flashback and world with something that is generally well liked by most people. Almost like, bitch you're complaining but here you are in the countryside playing smash bros with your friends dad. Shit aint that bad! I thought there was a lot here that was very thought provoking and symbolic. There's a lot of irony, with Nobara having a traditional CT that was a literal hammer and nail , playing into a popular saying "The nail that sticks up gets hammered down." referring obviously to the conformity heavy culture of Japan. Ironically, Nobara was safer with all the hammers back home that she perceived as trying to hammer her down, but she was happy to have taken her shot at the life she thought she wanted. From just an audio/visual perspective, the artwork was beautiful. I liked seeing just regular shit beautifully realized on the screen. The details in the scenes, in the stuff just sitting on a table, the pc, magazines, soda cans. It was also well directed and flowed well, with great music that hit on the tones it was going for. I think the general background art is something most fans don't seem to appreciate. A lot of the episodes have been masterful in that regard, especially in the Hidden Inventory portion, where I'm just very impressed with the quality and detail of the backgrounds. It's not just the animated frames that matter, but also the settings and backgrounds and how they're presented. Ultimately my real judgement for this flashback and the series overall is saved for when the series ends. Not all of the cards have been laid out on the table yet for this series. I for one hope Gege brings her back, as narratively he could easily do so with the tracks he's left for it. Seeing her flashback and it cut to the present with Yuji, I see Nobara as an important part of Yuji's life, as he was to hers. When she moves her hand and there's Gojo, Megumi, and Yuji, it's like they were what she gained from giving up her relatively good and safe life back home. That group are similar kindred souls to each other. Not that I'm expecting a happy ending or climax, but there are some insanely good payoffs that can be derived from this, if Gege so chooses to. We got enough going on if he doesn't too, so it is what it is. I wrote a lot, but it's been a while and I had some time today. Happy Sunday to everyone.

Past couple of episodes have been brutal. First Nanami now Nobara. At least Nobara got a hit in on Mahito. Itadori's face as he's thanking Nobara is wholesome 6:50. I was hoping they would fight alongside eachother against Mahito too. Itadori gone have to undergo a transformation or some shit next episode, he lost two of his comrades in front of him he's really bout to flip. I agree with y'all in the discussion. She dodged his hand right at 3:48 while fighting his clone beforehand and like Jerry said, she knew it was a double. After running the corner, I felt like she could've dodged him/put a nail through his hand from how the anime presented it. Regardless though I am sad about her death, as soon as his hand touched her face it was emotional for me. I'm not a manga reader, I'm just talking from anime only perspective so I could be wrong. From reading the comments I see there are differences in the manga.

The flashback was a bit long, but as it went on it drew me in more and more because I was so curious why the hell they were giving such a long flashback, so I'm not mad at it. And I'm not necessarily disappointed with how she died, more so how they animated it. They should've made the reason clear for she was just standing there "letting" Mahito touch her. Or it should've been like she got touched as soon as she turned the corner so she didn't have time to react or something, but this was definitely a bit odd. My guess though is that they were expecting us to assume that Mahito was just too fast for her to process Yuji being there, 2 Mahitos and dodging the hand.

@DW in response to your criticism of Gege having Nobara die: I said this somewhere further up.....but I'm pretty sure that's the point. It may not work for a number of manga; but for JJK, I think Gege knows what he's/she's doing. Yes, Yuji is being messed with because Mahito IS messing with him. Nanami nor Nobara had to die...but it's what Mahito wanted to do, he has the strength to do it, so Gege did it. Their deaths left me feeling nothing, empty even (and I'm a very empathetic and emotional person tbh), because...it was pointless. We've spent enough time with the characters to know who they are and what they stand for but not nearly enough to see their full potential and what else they can do or be...like we've missed out on something and/or wasted time which could have been well spent. In quite a few ways, that's the nature of being a jujutsu sorcerer. This works perfectly for JJK's story. Making the audience cry from the loss of a character isn't the right and only way for a story to be interesting/good.

The anime left out an essential monologue from the narrator that clears the "dodging" argument. In the manga, it's made clear the actual mahito acted as a blind spot for the other one, so she couldn't tell that they swapped or that the second one was even there. It also emphasizes that Nobara isn't conscious of Mahito's hands anymore due to her previous altercation with him, where she fingers out, and he also straight up tells her he can't transfigure humans. On top of the numerous implications, she was also exhausted at that point, like how Mahito blatantly points out she was exhausting herself. And Her monologue about her not firing off attacks as rapidly anymore makes this argument that it's an inconsistency null

The anime does it expecting you to understand already that there are levels to this and Mahito is way faster than Nobara and she wouldn’t even really be able to avoid the touch. They are on completely different levels. The scene is also expecting you to realize this is in anime time. Not real time. The only way it would have made sense is if it switched to her point of view and showed that she wasn’t even able to grasp how fast he was moving.

The manga explains that the switch happened in her blind spot. She didn't see them switch so to her she was still dealing with the Mahito who couldn't use his curse technique. By the time she saw Itadori, Mahito was reaching his hand over to touch her face. The anime really didn't translate that moment as well as it'd been translanted in the manga. It's important to know that it really kind of happened all at the same time in the manga. The execution was better there for sure.

I don't think the episode was Ass I kinda like that her backstory was ordinary and it also showed the fact that she cared about her new friends just as much as Fumi. But I do agree that maybe this was one of the times the anime could've added a little attempted dodge by Nobara or an arm extension by Mahito or something like that. So that it didn't look so out of nowhere especially since it seemed like Nobara was just in the zone vs Clone Mahito.

First of there is no point in nobara running on she runs on she getting struck the clone is behind mahito so she wouldn't see that the original mahito is running up to her and be caught of gaurd anyway..... She also having the original mahito chase after her while she struggling to dodge a clone. She also doesn't know he has trasnfiguration as in the manga its explained that mahito was afcting as a double the clone is behind the mahito running up to her so she only sees one mahito. Also in the manga its way faster the hand is already inches away from her face in the next page so mahito clearly moves fast Wellz is right it is anime speed the anime will adapt it a certain way, but in the manga its faster we don't see mahito get close to nobara we see him run and we see yuji scream nobara and nobara notice yuji and in the next shot mahito hand is already inches away from her face.

Also Nobara isnt as fast physically to keep up or react to a Yuji or Mahito so even if Yuji yelled it couldve been that everything was happening in like a second which is too fast for to process everything. The manga chapter of this episode elaborates on this more it states in the chapter 2 reasons Nobara was caught off guard was the real Mahito acted as a blind spot so Nobara wouldn’t notice they switched when she got underground all she could see from her viewpoint was Itadori who she acknowledged 2nd reason is because after she figured out the double couldn’t transfigure other people souls like the real Mahito she wasn’t as cautious of his hands cause she had no reason to be since she was assuming it was the double but R.I.P to a dope ass character this one really hurt
