Ted Lasso S2 Ep 5

Our Boy Nate getting more assertive!

Comments

Y'all totally missed the rom-com theme of the episode lol Ted alluded to it at the beginning too by saying he believes in "rom-communism" and the rest of the episode played on a lot of rom com tropes all the way down to the guy suddenly realizing he's made a mistake and going to get the shorty back at the end of the movie (Roy going back to Richmond) And s/o to Evan for the read on Nate, he's right. But if you don't understand what's happening with him then you just don't understand human psychology and the effects of insecurity in a man who doesn't know how to be one.

A. P.

exactly that’s why he’s good for the team, i think his insecurities getting to him rn

It's basically theoretical vs experimental, even though Nate has the theory of soccer down because he hasn't actually played it himself he can only look at things through a certain lens while Roy can do both.

if you guys go back, keely was wanting roy to get back into something professional wise im pretty sure, and remember she misses when roy is vulnerable, he told her hed try it out and he did, but then he probably always knew ted would want him to coach but he was already doin what Keely told him to try. and now we got this episode, where he realizes coaching is what he wants not commentating and he was only trying it, keely just wanted him to get back into something cuz she knows he missed being around that vibe. so yes wellz "it didnt matter" but that was the point imo, he had no obligation to that fr, and coaching was what he wanted to do and he could do it a his old club.

Myles Xavier

fax nate was just being a dick fr lol

Bro Roy knows just as much about the game than nate and probably way better bc he played. most coaches in Soccer have played before and playing the game definitely makes you a better coach in soccer imo, if you've played soccer you'd know. theres many ins and outs on the field and off the field (which is why ted brought him for mac adoo). Nate hasnt played but he a good coach and just needs to keep being who he really is and doing what he does best.

And so far Ted has always been respectful to Nate, until you could say he laughed when Nate said he was a big dog but, the point of him being assertive he could tell ted that and tell would apologies for sure.

Yeah it’s just annoying cause even past this show it’s way more former players coaching than former water boys lol they chose cherry pick terrible examples like Mj and act like it’s true for everything

Zar D. Goat

To them because they saw this as being possible they think it's more plausible than a former player being a coach. At least Evan had enough sense to see that what happened with Nate isn't a common occurrence.

Devin B

And again for the Roy “switched up” he always hated commentators from the beginning it was weird that he was enjoying it if anything.

Zar D. Goat

Mentioning players like Mj and Jerry west is disingenuous. They’re players who thrived off being physically better not mentally midfielders like Roy and pg and qbs always make decent coaches

Zar D. Goat

Boys really using this outlier case in the nfl and act like it’s translates everywhere and ignore the way more common trend of former players being coaches that spreads across all sports rn the best coach in soccer is a former player

Zar D. Goat

And for the Nate argument Evan is right. We’re talking about a professional player who’s been around the game his entire life. Nate has only shown he has a better grasp at soccer than beard and Ted but that’s not saying much. It’s enough that he’s even being paid by a club yet alone be over Roy after a few months of coaching

Zar D. Goat

“Is this a Valentine’s Day episode” yes 40 min in and 100 romance movies and the theme of “real” love for yourself others and your job yes.. the theme is love

Zar D. Goat

Y’all mad at Roy for not wanting to be a coach “on his own” as if that matters lol I doubt all 5 of y’all separately wanted to be YouTube reactors and nobody was convinced or introduced by someone else.

Zar D. Goat

Y’all tripping on Roy, he wanted to be around football again not just be a pundit. His switch is him just fully realizing what keely tried to help him with. He was just an agitator on tv not like he was enjoying himself. He just needs a little push cause he’s doing what’s comfortable not what he really wants to do

Zar D. Goat

I love when folks ship Ted and Rebecca because I’ll never get it 😂 I think the team needs all the help it can and Roy is a great addition to it.

Y’all are misremembering that scene with Nate. All Nate did for the most part was roast everybody. He was just trying to get them fired up for the game. He didn’t go around and pick apart people’s game besides maybe Roy you could say. In which all he said was to play angry because that’s him. Nate is a strategic mind for the game he can come up with stuff the same way Beard does but he lacks any type of leadership qualities as is. Roy is a leader, he has the respect of the players in a way Nate never will along with an understanding of what players need in a way Nate never will. Also for those of you that have played sports try and input your feelings that you had when you stepped away from the game. That’s Roy, he also is a person that is filled with pride. He doesn’t want people to tell him what to do so he will be pushed but ultimately will always say no and make a decision later on.

ItsLargeDad

Nate is more of a strategist than a coach, he has the soccer knowledge but he doesn't have the qualities to be a leader at the moment. Even when he was telling the players off that one time he had to be encouraged by Ted to do it. It's questionable if Roy has the same amount of soccer knowledge as Nate but he undoubtedly has the charisma to lead the players and the fans.
