I have watched fairy tail twice and Gildarts biggest impact in the entire show is Tenrou Island and then he doesn’t do shit all the way until the final arc against August (who he doesn’t even beat). In between that it’s very small appearances that don’t matter in the slightest. Shanks pulls up and stops marineford, he speaks with whitebeard while breaking his ship, he talks with Mihawk about luffy, and of course he gives Luffy the straw hat all pretimeskip . Gildarts doesn’t do anything but beat bluenote and we find out he’s Cana dad that’s it smh. Makarov tries to make him guild master then he disappears AGAIN for multiple arcs 💀. And he wasn’t even in the show for 76 episodes lmao but yeah ok. Fairy Tail is a much shorter anime so its not really a fair comparison to say we see Gildarts more but IMPACT he does nothing on the level of Shanks. And Shanks isn’t nonexistent anymore he’s about to show up much more in the anime now that Kaido/Big Mom are out of the way.

Gildarts was kinda just told to us he was super strong only to use him as a power scale for what kind of enemies are ahead. Shanks definitely has more meaning to one piece than Gildarts does to Fairy Tail

2023-10-10 19:38:45 +0000 UTCI think Shanks is much more involved in OP's plot than Gildarts is in FT's. He's why Luffy has the gum-gum/Nika fruit, wears the straw hat, and becomes a pirate. He was on Gol D's ship, became a Yonko, and showed up to Marineford almost like a mediator, while Gildarts is just the strongest in FT and another father figure to Natsu. There is more to him (you just don't know yet), but he's just another character in Natsu's journey as opposed to Shanks who might be a key figure in answering ''plot questions''. Both are guides to the MCs but still are background characters (at least, in my opinion). Also, it might be because FT is shorter, but I think we see Gildarts a bit more.

Fairy tail has about 400 episodes and how many had guildarts shown up in. But a lot of the people are just going to vote base on one piece being way better and bias.
