They are really good and while they aren’t canon to the manga, they are to the show and get brought up again. So make sure to watch them before you start the Edolas arc. After these 2 episodes, you should do reactions to episodes 9, 19, and 50. Then episodes 68 to 60 together. Trust me on this, the fillers are really good.

It has foreshadowing sure, but that’s about it. They’ve probably already watched 69 since it has canon stuff for the first half and then skipped right ahead to 76. And yeah, for some reason Gray was mad OOC in that arc. Which is weird, cause that’s usually not a problem with the fillers...

But the biggest thing I just want to make sure doesn’t get misunderstood is the Wendy and Jellal scene. You can use context to figure out that. Since Carla’s response came after Jellal asked her to heal Natsu. Then he asks her to destroy the lacrima in his place instead. Which Carla doesn’t respond to at all.

Me and my friends noticed a huge bunch of mistranslations in a lot of their shows back when I had a subscription. To the point where they ended up having to go back and change it. Maybe they’ve gotten better since then? But certainly not when they were subbing Fairy Tail.

Since a lot of the subbing sites are done by fans who don’t actually have a lot of experience in Japanese and also do it as a passion project for free, there’s actually more things lost in translation there. On the official anime sites, the translations are way closer. But the dub ADR director actually reads the manga himself and applies that to his scripts. Even some of the VAs read it for their performance (like Wendy’s).

2023-09-29 20:15:41 +0000 UTCI literally just finished rereading the manga chapters for these episodes and it’s pretty accurate except for the fact that Igneel doesn’t reach out to him at all in the manga As for Igneel reaching out the only significant changes were that the dub added a line about Igneel being disappointed, referred to Natsu as a True Dragon Slayer rather than just a Dragon Slayer, and changed the last line from I Igneel am with you, to I Igneel will always be proud of you Which if you’ve seen the series it’s easy to infer why those changes might have been made As for Ichiya that’s just personal opinion, I for one found him funny in both versions and the manga

On Wendy, think Pat called it way earlier but her element is basically wind. And yeah, I love Jellal, but I do agree with him getting arrested as well. Also, yes this was still the power of friendship. Natsu straight up said they were the only reason he was still standing. Every single fight in the show is power of friendship as that is literally the source of their magic power. Not that that’s a problem since it was established in episode 2.

In the Manga Carla never says Wendy can’t do offensive magic she tells Jellal it’s nonsense to ask Wendy to power up Natsu because of how many times she’s had to use that magic just today. Jellal is then the one that says she must have some powerful attack magic because she’s a dragon slayer and tells her to consume the heavens. Then when she’s powering up she says she needs more power more sky power. She isn’t trying to figure out how to attack, she knows how, she just hasn’t been in any situations that require her to use it until now

Natsu got strong flames that had a drawback- meaning he had to share some of Jellas sins but that didn’t bother Natsu. So that helped active his Dragon Force like when he ate the Etherion. Lucy had Gemini come and save the day. Wendy learned how to use her attack abilities for the first time. Ichiya is literal comedic relief without the relief. Even though that “man” do be funny sometimes when placed right. Gray was valid cuz he’s Gray. Erza is the strongest and had a good amount of her magic still so that’s self explanatory. So in conclusion, that wasn’t POF, they all got their dubs by regular means. If you count Jella assisting Natsu with the Golden Flame of Rebuke POF, then I can name many many many scenes in other anime where a side character has given the MC a power up that allowed him to win. So let’s be serious here💀

The Wendy part genuinely changed her story progression to make Carla look like a Karen mom. Igneel reaching out to Natsu was also different. (Btw Pat you have seen Igneel in the real world already they are not “in the void”) The humor from Ichiya is lost, he is still stupid but at least he is funny in the original. I’m genuinely worried the translations are gonna ruin the better arcs. Yea I’m just not rocking with it anymore, it was mad annoying to me. I even watched this arc like a week ago so it’s still fresh.

Which is why you have only seen her heal people up to this point. So this whole process of her gathering strength is her actually trying to figure out how to turn her magic into and attack. Also to Pat he can’t access the dragon force himself, as you progress through the story you will learn more about it and the differences between generations of dragon slayers.
