IT also solidified more Sanji reason for joining Luffy specifically, which is not really done well with the pacing they did here. Sure people get the point, but it dilutes the struggle you see later on when there is internal fighting between the crewmates and Luffy (e.g., W7, Whole Cake)

Tf, Kuro ain’t important to the story but he got basically 2 episodes. It’s not about krieg u dumass bitch it’s about sanji’s introduction and don kriegs pirates vs baratie is a major thing for his intro cuz we see how well he fights vs opponents.

2023-09-17 21:31:44 +0000 UTCDidn't we first see Sanji backstory during Baratie? (Sanji and Zeff on top of the rocks and Zeff ate his leg) then they showed that flashback one more time in WCI. The first time we seen this was early on in the story in Baratie. Unless I'm tripping correct me if I'm wrong. These emotional scenes hit different when it involves real people fr like when Shanks gave Luffy his hat. Love the scene with Luffy and Nami 23:57. Great acting. I do wish the Sanji and Zeff farewell was done exactly how the anime did it. But it's all good I still like the emotional aspect to it.

Rockets a bad example because he’s one of only 2 100% cgi aspects in the Guardians crew, so they can go all in, plus it’s a movie. There’s a reason tv shows find it so hard, you’re doing environmental CGI, action CGI, and for multiple hours. I also miss all the dumbness Luffys fruit does in anime, since it’s so casual. In LA they’ll only use it when needed for the narrative, not shit like luffy wrapping around Nami

The most we get is him using gum gum pistol but other than that we get him using other moves one time at most so far. Even in the anime we were able to see Luffy casually stretching himself when he's just chilling.

Most live action One Piece fights are going to conclude in the episode they're introduced. 2 episodes at max if there are multiple fights going on

But getting multiple pointless fights is what turns people off of anime in the first place, and that's who this show is for.

He's not laughing as much, eating his usual crackers, or secretly being proud or impressed by his grandson (although, he becomes like that later in the story). I'm guessing that his character will become more carefree over time. Other than that, he is supposed to be strict and hot-tempered when it comes to Luffy (dude's been scolding, beating Luffy's ass since he was a kid) at least at this point in the story. I find him pretty realistic (not 100% accurate, but realistic for an audience that meets Garp for the first time). It would be hard to emulate the goofiness he has in the anime. I actually find his tantrums in the L-A hilarious. So, I guess, we'll have to wait to see if the actor is doing a good job or not (not that it would be entirely his fault if he doesn't though).

And sanji vs that dude with the hat and how luffy knocks out krieg. And also with how mihawk showed up was much better in the anime. And for the next episode when arlong fights luffy again we won’t see luffy say “who’s arlong” and then immediately punch him as soon as he knows who he is. Like come on bruh it’s a lot of shi they shoulda just kept the same

He just has a short character arc here because when he shows up in the manga, he's just there for exposition or whatever.

Him and the Mihawk actor to me are the closest 1:1 representations of their anime counterparts, from their mannerisms to how I'd envision their English voice to sound like. And I love how they're handling Nami's departure. With Luffy's leadership being questioned and the discourse in the crew really gives water 7 vibes.

And from that perspective, I would say there's nothing ruined about the character if comparisons aren't a factor. That being said, while I don't mind the take of Garp testing Luffy before going to the Grand Line, I also wish they kept his personality somewhat close. Cause I like that Garp is basically Luffy if he followed a different path.

It’s a very realistic depiction of someone who is disappointed in his grandson but can’t help but be conflicted because he’s chasing his dream with conviction and a smile on his face. The little concerns I had about his character went away when we see him laughing through the frustration about his ship getting disabled by luffy. It blows my mind that others can’t see that

Mat choosing to have Garp introduce this early was a stupid decision because Garp is realistically too strong to fail and his personality is carefree similar to how Mihawks was this episode. I think what he was trying to do was since Garp clearly hates that Dragon and Luffy became outlaws, in his head it will make more sense for Garp to put more effort into stopping luffy but ended up ruining his character as a result
