So this just highlighting how some women might find what they want but some women might feel like “stereotypical barbie”. Barbie was never really rude to ken, they are just a product of what the creator of barbie made, and the men’s were made to just be there, Barbie is a girls brand so ofc ken’s and men are gonna look dumb, i don’t take offense to that lol

Didn't like how it assumed all men are oppressive, also how both men and women find their identity in who they date or what they do. That's false. I did really like how funny and entertaining it was. Motherhood and independence are fantastic things for women, doesn't matter what anyone says, a women doesn't need approval of any person to be a women.

You cling to any man character you can, Ken, and even though the movie points out he is in the wrong, you still call sexism when there’s nothing sexist about Barbie-land until the patriarchy is introduced. But I will say the movie did one thing right, they showed that a world ruled by men isnt good, and also showed that a world ruled by women isn't good either. The real world isn't quite a patriarchy anymore, but it started that way, and we've come a long way to where we are now, similarly in barbieland where they have understood that neither all barbies nor all kens should be in charge, it will take a while for the kens to get to level of equality women have achieved today, cuz change takes time, and realisation comes before implementation.

Personally, I walked out that theater feeling like Barbie when she stepped into the real world, it was actually pretty sad and a lot of women I know have said the same thing! I liked seeing the majority of men absolutely despise this movie because of their own insecurities and complexes, and Ik they’ll realize on their own in the way future why they’re so irritated by it! This was so fun to see! Fun fact! Barbie apologized to Ken for not appreciating him, while Ken did not apologize for stealing her house, throwing out her possessions, and making all her friend’s subservient!!

She has the right to choose whether or not she finds love with Ken or someone else completely or doesn't seek love at all. She goes on her own journey to discover her womanhood and her identity outside of the control and lens of a man/Mattel. And you can't say that no one wants to not be in a relationship or find love because there are plenty of people who don't want that, even outside of those who consider themselves asexual or aromantic (and nah, I'm not saying all ace people don't want relationships). Not to say those people don't get lonely, but there are ways of finding meaningful connection and living a fulfilled life that don't involve being in a relationship. I will say however that there's a trend in media of sending a message that women don't need men or a relationship and it's meant to be women empowerment but for hopefully obvious reasons, unless it's done a certain way, that can be a problematic message to send and I hope that certain media stops devaluing traditional family values in the name of being progressive, but I don't think that's what was done here.

So they created the Ken doll, but they just stopped there and gave him no persona, meanwhile, Barbie got to be everything. Basically Barbie ="She can do any and everything" and Ken = "He's just Ken". That's why, when MATTEL found out Ken was with Barbie in the real world, they themselves didn't care. It's also why, Barbie tells him he needs to be his own person outside of his relationship with her.

Nowadays divorce rates are at an all time high due to the idea that you have to get married, have kids build a life and etc. People are getting married nowadays before they figure out who they are as an individual and are only following societal norms. I think that’s the point the movie was attempting to make. Even the writers of the movie are married with kids. It’s like the movie plays on stereotypes to get to the point of individuality. Great discussion at the end because Rob brought up some great point to help guide the discussion and I definitely agree it would have been better if it was “All Land” lol
