a lot of people will look at Kaido's speech about haki and devil fruit powers and "How can he talk, kaido also has a devil fruit" but if you look at the way Kaido fights, most of his attacks are haki attacks such as "Thunder Bagua and Ragunarku.." the only attack that results from devil fruit power is "Blast Breath", "Demolition Gust" counts as somewhat of a sword attack because all he's doing is breathing wind and then shaping it like blades using his teeth. Most of the time Kaido is taking his club or whatever you want to call and channeling Haki through it like roger, whitebeard, shanks, zoro, rayleigh, and most haki users. Luffy on the other hand is always fighting using his devil fruit, especially in Gear 5, fluffy uses haki but not to the degree that Kaido or the other people do, and I think that's what Kaido is trying to tell him, to have a balance between his reliance on his devil fruit and his haki.

Yeah that makes sense. Personally either love to see enel or at least his df (if it were to get robbed) in some way in the story. Oda easily displayed some of the most new creative ways to use a common fictional power like lightning.
