What other alternatives measured even a fraction of the Iron-Man sequel role and the potential pay for that which would have given him strong leverage beyond it? He turned down a film without getting a secure position in another movie role. It's bad business.

They built almost the entire suit for RDJ to wear in Iron Man 1. By Engame, he's wearing pajamas basically, as all he has is a soft mo cap suit. That applies to most of the characters, and they all just stand in front of a green screen on a Soundstage now. Practical will always look better than pure CGI, so Phase 1 films, especially IM 1 which is heavily practical, will look better.

Superhero movies were good but stuff like hellboy,the x-men movies, and even the Sam Raimi spider-man movies weren't pulling people in on the level of the mcu.
