Reply 1994 came out before Reply 1988 in the series. Reply 1994 is also incredibly fun to watch! I really hope you react to this drama too! Actually, the entire Reply series was hugely popular in Korea. The order of release was Reply 1997 → Reply 1994 → Reply 1988. In the end, Jung Hwan leaves the ring on the table. I believe leaving the ring symbolizes him leaving his first love as a bittersweet memory. The saddest part is Deok Sun’s reaction. If she had heard Jung Hwan’s confession back when she liked him, she would have been overjoyed. But now, she feels sorry for him, fully understanding his feelings. Just as Deok Sun once had feelings for Jung Hwan, she now feels bittersweet and thankful for his confession. However, when Deok Sun is at the drinking gathering without Taek, she keeps looking toward the door whenever someone comes in. She’s waiting for Taek. Jung Hwan knows this—that Deok Sun’s heart is now directed toward Taek. Even though Jung Hwan is aware of Deok Sun’s feelings for Taek, he still confesses. He hesitated and delayed for so long that it was already too late, but he wanted to bring closure to his first love. Even though Jung Hwan was with his friends, making the confession seem playful, Deok Sun clearly knows it wasn’t a joke and that it was heartfelt. There’s no way Jung Hwan and Deok Sun wouldn’t understand each other’s true feelings. That’s what makes this scene so heartbreaking. Jung Hwan had already realized that Deok Sun liked Taek, so even though his confession was sincere, he seemed to play it off as a joke in the end. He confessed his true feelings to bring closure to his first love, but since Deok Sun had already fallen for Taek, he didn’t want to burden her and chose to end it as if it were just a joke. In Korea, there were two major fan factions during the show: one called “Eo-nam-ryu” (short for “The husband is Ryu Jun Yeol [Jung Hwan] anyway”) and the other called “Eo-nam-taek” (short for “The husband is Taek anyway”).

2024-11-15 20:19:40 +0000 UTCI love this episode. Jung Hwan's issue has always been his indecisive nature. Also, everytime, almost everytime he has a chance to make her feel loved, he kinda butchers it. Like, when Taek told her she was pretty in ep 9 or sth. He told her she was ugly.

He would have realized that her love in the scene where she kept looking around the door. that means she is waiting taek. I am so sad and too bad that Jung Hwan's first love is over. but I love this episode.

2024-11-15 19:06:34 +0000 UTCJung Hwan literally SAW the other dude with his girlfriend, then proceeded to sit down and watch HALF the freaking movie before FINALLY deciding to do something. No, hun, it wasn't the red lights, it was literally your own hesitation and indecision. I totally understand your support for Jung Hwan, bc we as the viewers have seen his love for deok sun, but let's be fr guys. In Deok Sun's pov, Jung Hwan has never given her the time of day, he's just her annoying childhood friend and even when she liked him and tried to take the initiative, he just ignored her, avoided her and hurt her. I think she has no reasons to accept that half assed confession (COME ON!! saying it's a joke???). I was DONE feeling bad for him a few episodes ago.

Reply 1994 and Reply 1997 will be a lot of fun. My favorite series is Reply 1997 And actually The Reply series was aired in 1997, 1994, and 1988, so Koreans who watched it already know what's going on between them, so it's a fun and exciting scene to see them come out
