Song Jung Ki and Song Hye Kyo were already famous in Korea back then. It got spotlight from the beginning because it was the first film/drama that Song Jung Ki picked right after his military service. Onew was also already famous as Shinee but this was his first time acting. Later in one TV show, they talked about how funny it was that he was not invited to Song-Song's wedding but the other member of Shinee, Minho, was because he was more close to Song Jung Ki. Song Jung Ki is known for being a part of Jo In Sung's fam (the father of Bong Suk in Moving) which includes Lee Kwang Su(the running man guy in the first episode, that's why he was a special cast thanks to their friendship), D.O. from EXO, Kim Wo Bin, and many other famous actors. Others like Jin Gu(the other main male lead) and Kim Ji Won were not really famous. Kim Ji Won appeared in "The Heirs" where she played a major role with other famous actors like Lee Min Ho, Park Shin Hye, Kim Wo Bin, Kang Ha Nuel, and Krystal from F(x). She was not famous back then but kinda became famous just for the role she played in the Heirs. Since the writer of "The Heirs" wrote this drama(she is also the writer of "The Glory", "Goblin", and "Mister Sunshine"), she contacted her for this role. Kim Ji Won said she cried and said YES right away not even reading the script. After this drama, she got really really famous.
