Blood and Honor - Concept Teaser

Hi all. Towards the end of my last update, I mentioned I was working on a sort of tech demo and would share more with you as I could. Well, here is the first bit of it.

When it comes out, this will be another visual novel-style "game" using Ren'Py. I'm putting the word game in quotes here because right now this is strictly a sandbox and concept I'm working with to experiment with some skills and ideas I've had since I started BBN. Once this is finally in a playable state and ready for release, it'll contain the prologue and first chapter... and that will be it. I may never do any further updates on it. While, in concept, there is a full story over three acts, my focus is going to remain on BBN. So, please don't worry about that. 

I'll share more on this as it firms up and takes shape, but I was happy with this image and wanted to share. All of the foliage had to be manually added, asset by asset, and I'm pleased with how it's all come together.

I'm also playing around with some animated clips to see how well that works, how it impacts file sizes, etc., along with some more advanced Ren'Py functions (for me). Hopefully this is all stuff I'll be able to bring into BBN in some capacity.

In the meantime, I am about a quarter of the way through the renders for the next update, and have begun outlining in my head the script for the next update. I'm still aiming to have this next release out to you in early April.

I think so, too. Honestly, I love mafia movies and stories, The Godfather and Goodfellas and Casino, but I'm also trying to think of what I can do with Ren'Py that stretches my skills. A murder mystery requires a few things as a writer. Everything needs to be plotted out in some detail before I start writing, and then thinking about how to track that in the game's code. I'm already learning a lot about menus and ui design, and building on what I've learned about persistent values (which I had to learn to implement the consent sequence), so it's been intellectually fun to plan out. I'll give more details later. If folks seem interested, it may be something I continue to tinker with in the background when I need a change of pace. My passion is BBN, but it has been fun trying new ideas. I also finally taught myself about animating in Daz and will have somethibg on that soon. Kind of rudimentary (not explicit with all the moving body parts), but still a new thing for me. Trying to figure out how different settings impact quality but also file sizes.

I mean, it could be in the same universe, but it's not supernatural at all. No vampires or werewolves. I may have Mayhew and Paolo make a cameo in a scene for shits and giggles (it would fit, honestly), but totally different concept other than the fact both stories are a little dark, the guys a little more mature than in some other VNs, and you could go "Good guy" or "bad guy" over the course of the story.
