Progress Update (Almost there) and Behind the Scenes

Alrighty! I've been hard at it the last 48 hours but want to give everyone a quick status update. But, I'll get straight to the point:  images are 99.9% finished, so next up is running all the images through post (takes 10 minutes), added them to the game, beginning technical QC, then audio and playtesting. I should have this out to you within the week, if not sooner.

Now, what are these images and what's been up with development?

Behind The Scenes

It's been a while since I did a BtS post, so I thought I'd share some "outtakes" of images that have to be redone. One of the things I'm using in every image for this update is a depth of field setting for the cameras. This is essentially the cameras' "focus" setting and, I think, can make for more engaging images that help the user focus by softening parts of the image that are in the background.

Unfortunately, like everything else, it involves some extra settings and, sometimes, needs some refinement. In these preview outtakes, you can see how the focus is a little blurry or off. But, you may have noticed it working well in some of the previous Sneak Peek posts.

What it means though is sometimes I don't catch these issues until I run the render the first time, then have to go back and re-run them. So, that's been going on.

The other image here is just a screenshot of the last few lines of the script file. You can see it's over 1800 lines right now and then it goes to the end of act 1. That end is just going to be a series of images with some music (no dialogue).

General Life Update

All of that said, I do want to apologize. I was really hoping to already have this out to you by now (a month ago, actually). What's been taking so long? Honestly, it's just been life. My regular job has been a little busier the last month but my professional life has been even busier than that as I was interviewing for and then accepted a new position with a different employer. That new job is starting beginning of December, but getting ready for it has involved setting aside a number of evenings completing paperwork and a lot of forms. We've also been spending a lot of weekends at our cabin getting it ready as a vacation rental, but that is FINALLY done and should require far fewer weekends going forward.

Alright, that's it for now. I'm back to working on these last few renders!

Belated thanks on the congrats! ðŸĪĢ Sorry, I've had my nose to the grindstone so much this week not much has penetrated my addled brain. Hope you're staying warm!

Hey, congrats on landing that new job!! And I agree, depth of field in the images just looks soooo much better. It allows you to focus the viewers attention right where you want it, and can add feeling and atmosphere. And BbN has such a noir feel to it, I could easily see it being rendered in black-and-white with a very shallow depth of field to get that noir look. (not saying you should do that - just that I think it would work like that.) Congrats again, and yeah, don't burn yourself out. We want you around long-term.
