First, I want to say that Arthur needs a much deeper lasagna pan and his biggest philosophical dilemma will disappear. Something that didn't get talked about in the podcast and is the first thing I think about with TE7's writing is the surprise characters. By that I mean, I can't think of anyone else in fan fiction that I've read that does a better job of portraying other characters through the main character's eyes. He does an amazing job of using that ability to misdirect the readers about the characters, because Harry doesn't have all of the information. Then as Harry learns more, the readers also discover what the characters are actually all about. "Vitam Paramus" with Gabrielle and her coach are perfect examples (but not the only ones in his writing) of this technique. Early in the story it is easy for the reader to believe that Gabrielle hates dancing and her coach is a horribly abusive person, because that's what Harry believes at that point. Discovering the truth with Harry as the story develops creates a much more immersive experience than being in on the information and just waiting for Harry to catch on, but I think that is the more common way for stories to be told. I've found myself reading TE7 stories and thinking, "Which characters are Harry totally misunderstanding at the beginning of this story?" More importantly, I often find myself questioning what is truly known about the characters when reading other writers that don't spoon feed the readers everything there is to know about them. Another example of the reoccurring theme in these podcasts that it is all about Characterization. Thank you for writing so many stories that I've enjoyed and helping to make me a more active and better reader.
