Alterations in form
Added 2024-08-27 18:47:33 +0000 UTCHello everyone! I hope your summer is winding down beautifully and life has been treating you well. Thank you for dropping by, catching up with the story, and giving us your support! It means the world to us that you enjoyed what we created enough to end up here.
Due to life's relentless pursuit of my time and energy, I've decided to adjust the release schedule. There are some weeks that it's simply impossible for me to make the time-plus-optimal-focus required to create quality content. This has left me viewing releases as an axe hovering over my shoulder; sometimes I have plenty of chapters, and sometimes I have next to none.
My first attempt at alleviating this unnecessary stress is to swap to batching chapters either monthly or bi-monthly. This means the story will be continued in either 10 or 20 chapter segments, and the timing of releases will be as they are finished, aiming for end of months. The new schedule will start after the end of this week, as we move into the new month.
Would love to hear feedback on if we should release art as we create it, giving sneak peaks into the coming action and relevant characters.
On a personal note: Ami has completed surgery on her second foot, so now both are swollen to the size of hockey sticks! She's clonking around with her huge boot a little as of today, and I can't be more excited to have her chasing the kids in my place.

First off, take care of yourself and your family above all else. People are far more important than books. That said, a couple of thoughts: I'm on the $3/month membership tier and Patreon does not email or notify me in any way when there are new chapters. I have to check manually, and also keep a record of what I last read so I can see what's new. This user/customer experience is already very poor. If chapters are only going to be there once a month and I won't know when? That doesn't clear the bar for being a good use of my time and I'll likely go back to just Amazon. Also, have you considered finding a virtual assistant to help out with admin tasks like these? You can finish chapters at whatever cadence makes sense for you and have them published at a different cadence. Something to consider.

If scaling back up monthly releases is what it takes for you to have a healthy life balance, go for it! And, from the audience side of things, I'd rather read in chunks than being drip fed, anyway. Thanks and all the best!

2024-08-28 00:31:54 +0000 UTCI would like to see monthly releases because we pay monthly. That said, you can move away from the sort of serial nature of the post that you have been doing and maybe start telling new kinds of stories more broad or connected stories by taking the same amount of writing you would do for 10 posts and telling an organic whole. Instead of 10 chapters we'd get a novella kind of

2024-08-27 22:28:51 +0000 UTCBatch releases are fine. Maintaining your quality and not burning yourself out are what matter. As to art releases, I'm mixed. I really enjoy your creations and seeing more of them is a good thing. But in line with the story enhances what you are presenting. I don't mind either way as we'll see them eventually. Now if you want to share concept art anytime...π I hope Ami's recovery goes well.

2024-08-27 21:03:17 +0000 UTCI think you should do whatever it is that is necessary to give you the time and creative space to produce content that you are proud of. If that is batch releases monthly, or a chapter every two weeks for a time, I say do it.

2024-08-27 20:17:09 +0000 UTCImportant things first: Congratulations to Ami for the progress! All the best still for a quick, painless recovery π Art (any kind of background/ additional info, really) is always appreciated and would work wonderfully as teaser for the upcoming chapters! Even if it's just a reminder every (second) week that you continue writing and chapters will/ won't drop "on schedule" (last week of the month?) π Like of course daily 50k+ chapters and two dozen pics each would be awesome, but imho it's way more important that you set a pace you can keep and not burn yourself out. More than anything I want to see this story finished and if this is the way for you to be able to continue towards that...? Go for it. I think the worst thing that can happen to any creatively working person is not having fun anymore and more often than not that's reflected in their work. I (we) don't want that.
