I know this march through the hills is probably a struggle against over exposition but I think the Lady Daiyu glass scene would have been better as a chance encounter during a tour of their compound.

2026-02-26 18:39:41 +0000 UTCI think it all comes down to her Dragon Veins. Right now, the center of Tianlan's power is Fa Ram. That is where she is most whole, and thus most powerful. Tianlan can extend her power through her dragon veins, but it's kinda like a pipe. Her flow is restricted. The more repaired her dragon veins are, the more easily she can move her power from one place to another. Communication should be more or less instantaneous along her Dragon Veins though, since that presumably takes only a negligible amount of Qi. With Pale Moon Lake, the problem is that I think her Dragon Veins network is insufficient to sustain the maintenance necessary remotely. I think Jin acts like a conduit, allowing Tianlan to muster her full power anywhere that he is. The subordinate spirits seem like something in between a cultivator and a contractor. They have their own independent power to draw on while also being connected to Tianlan. Which is why Pale Moon will be able to maintain the repairs after Jin leaves. She isn't fully dependant on the power she can draw directly from Tianlan's Dragon Veins. She has her own power that she can use to supplement it.

Tianlan saying to let her know about trouble got me thinkin in that direction. Like.. we get scenes where Jin and/or others visit Tianlan spiritually, but also more solidly than simple meditation. They "see" her cottage, and "see" the General when he is there. They touch her and objects and interact with things as if real. But we only get those scenes when people are at Fa Ram, or if Jin is there. And the General, when "awake", is ofc at Fa Ram as well. So, can Tianlan and Little Moon "see" each other in that place at any time? What about Jin and Meimei? Or does Jin, as Tianlan's contractor, need to travel to the lake for either her or him to see Pale Moon? Oh, but Tianlan was fully present during some of the Azure Alliance stuff even while Jin was home at Fa Ram, so Tianlan definitely isn't bound thaaat tightly to Jin. She can still travel anywhere connected to her properly. Or maybe only where she has cultivators connected deeply? Hmm
