No Patreon chapter this Monday+ Casual's rambles

As said at the end of the previous chapter, I will not be posting a chapter this Monday, October 25th.

This is so I can do a reassessment. There may be an update to the most recent chapter as well.

Secondly, for the rest of the week there will be no posts on public platforms (SB RR, QQ). This is both to give myself a break, and hopefully to get some more advanced chapters available.

And I guess I'll just ramble a bit here about my own thoughts. It might be a bit disjointed. it might not even make too much sense, but I think that's okay. I also really hope it doesn't come across as fishing for sympathy. Just me talking a bit. I don't want to make a habit of it, and come across as whiny.

The first thing I guess is expectations. For myself. People are, at the end of the day, paying for something. People are paying for may work. Maybe its irrational, but I don't think it is. I want to deliver to everybody who is giving me money for this. Again, I hate to sound like a broken record. Or maybe I don't say it enough. I know I've got my share of neurotic hang-ups about praise, but again, this is quite frankly insane to me. I never, in my entire life, thought that the Patreon would be as successful as it is. Its a passion, and something I love.. but sometimes passion isn't enough.

Writing is work. Sometimes my brain feels like its going to melt into mush and slide out my ears. When passion fails, and when all I want to do is go "I'll do it tomorrow" The thought of skimping out and not delivering on my "promise", to betray the people who are paying for my work, is what drives me onward. Onward to sit down at my computer, and iterate something 10, 20 times, the same scene over and over and over until I have something that I can be proud of. To just outright scrap scenes that don't work, to start the entire chapter again from scratch 2k words in. You guys see a bit of it sometimes, the people who help me edit see it a bit more. This has produced some absolutely fantastic scenes in my opinion. Hell, The Hearth chapter was one of those. It nearly didn't have the earth-chan portions, which at the end of the day, made that chapter.  I wish to deliver to everybody a timely, quality piece that they can enjoy. I already dropped down to three times a week, and I don't want to drop down further.

Delivering something low quality, or betraying the trust, and time people have put into the story is absolutely abhorrent to me on a visceral level.

Then of course, is the other side. exhaustion and burn out. You've seen the chapters get later and later. I've certainly felt a bit tired, but I don't think I'm burning out. I know the end point to this volume. I really think people will like it, and hopefully I've got some twists and turns that people enjoy. Its a little bit "I'll rest when I'm done?" I don't know quite when things will be done on this volume, but I'll tell you now, I'm definitely going to take some time off after its done.

Its a pull in two directions. You need rest, but resting means you aren't delivering. The great conundrum of the age. I need more advanced chapters and a backlog, so that if anything happens I can still have posts, but I can't get that with the current pace, and if I drop the current pace it feels bad to me.

I a bit don't want to take more time off. I'm already down to 3 times a week, so taking any more time off feels lazy, and like I'm not working for the support I'm getting. But I do need some time off. Probably personal hangups again. Yeah, it sucks I'm tired, but other people don't get that excuse. They have to work even exhausted. I'm lucky enough that The number on the front page is that high. I can't start getting lazy, or take it for granted. Excuses are excuses, and I almost feel like they're unacceptable. I have to repay people for the trust they have, and for the support they're giving. Plenty of other authors write more than me. 2K an update could even be considered skimpy, but I also don't really want to pad out words, because thats just filler. You guys don't want filer, I don't want filler.... which is a bit strange because this is primarily Slice of Life, ha.

At the end of the day.... I dunno. I still have yet to find my limits. I don't think I'm approaching burnout, late chapters aside. I'll freely admit I still barely have a clue what I'm doing with patreon , and literature in general. I'm stressed out, but also largely content with my life. I've got hard times, and easy times. Feels like such a short while ago that I made the post about the Yun Ren chapter.

And well, thats just life, ain't it?  At the end of the day, you guys deserve honesty. This is from me to you, largely unfiltered. I don't really have anything more to say.

So, Have a good day, everybody. Thanks for listening to my vent/ whatever this is.

I'll see you Wednesday!

Comments

Honestly I feel like it's perfectly reasonable to go to two or even one chapter a week, depending on the amount of content involved. A late chapter is late for a while but a bad chapter is bad... well, maybe not forever, but you get the idea!

Twi

hmmmm im a patreon to show you in a tangible way that i enjoy what you do, to encourage you to keep doing what you do, not to force you to keep a deadline, if you need to take a break or vacation, then you do that. also love your story, so chill and different than the other stories of this kind.

Sg

Writing is a job. It needs to be done systematically. You cannot create something from nothing, and you can't do it casually and still produce something reliable. I work in a field full of people who are super passionate about what they do, and my employees are passionate about their work too, but burnout is real and everpresent. No matter how passionate you are, or no matter how much you "want to do it right", you will crash and burn if you think you can grit your teeth and just make it work. Your Patreon revenue stream is pretty good. You can onboard people to help you storyboard, edit, etc. Do it in a way that's reliable, and trackable, and make it less stressful. Focus on you doing what you do best, but also focus on how you can work the most effective way. It's not just about titrating work/rest periods. It's about making the work process more efficient and letting yourself get out of your own head.

serguzzle

Chiming in here. You make every chapter free within two days. Most people here can easily wait two days for a chapter, so they're paying you to support you and let you know how much they like what you've written. The consensus on here is to take a break, and I've seen a lot of people mention other creators who have a system of take off a week once a month. A healthy work life balance needs to exist for creative writing just as much as a typical day job. Releasing 3 chapters a week is producing them insanely fast, and we have definitely been spoiled. 1-2 times a week is still more than good enough.

Calico C

A day job and creative work are two completely different things. Writing is hard work, if you don't believe me, think of all the essays you had to write in college. Now think of spending eight hours a day, five days a week writing nothing but good quality essays. That is not feasible. School doesn't make you do that, work doesn't make you do that. Most jobs are no where near as mentally demanding as writing.

Calico C

Pirateaba from the wandering Inn also refuesed rest for a long time. Now she does 1 week break every month. Surprisingly not only did the quality increase, but the quantity as well. Rest is important to give yourself more energery. Mind you Aba writes that she could use a longer break but like you keeps delivering until the story is done. So take my personal option is to take a break 1 week every month. Or at least 1 week every 2 month. Oh and years ago when i asked Aba for tipps in writting she wrote me a number of advice but the last one is the one that really struck me. "Writing a web serial will be lonely, frustrating, confusing, frightening, and miserable on some days. A lot of days. You might not have just a bad day, but a bad week, a bad month. Half a year. But like all writing, you do it because you have a story to tell, not for the fame or glory. If you don't understand that now, you will once you get into it. Good luck! "

Bookman

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but if you need a break you could always suspend patreon payments for a few months (maybe make a new tier where you can receive donations while you’re away), take some time off without any “guilt” for not producing content and then come back when you feel you have enough advance chapters/the future of the story planned out.

H.H.

Yo, just pause the patreon and take a break

Klien Morretti

Perhaps take a note from your protagonist and give yourself a break. Guilt is a wonderful way to hate yourself - So long as you intend to continue, I'll not be withdrawing my (meagre) support to seeing you continue to fill this beautiful world.

Sere Maddox

Write 4 chapters and release them one a week next month. Take some time off. Look at ways to reevaluate your work balance during your break so it doesn't add more stress with any time strains. Several authors I follow take regular breaks. A simple notice of "Hey, taking a break for x amount of time." Does wonders of understanding and helps with the guilt.

Anthony Arredondo

Plenty of authors on here take breaks to recharge. Please take care of yourself first.

James Squibb

Take the time mate - you and the story deserve it

Sam Baker

I really enjoy your work. I want to be be healthy and sound of mind. Make sure you always enjoy your work!!

Zachary Bender

I really enjoy reading your creation, and I think it is important you do as well! I would say I'm a Patreon member to show my appreciation for what I read, and not so much for on time delivery of future chapters. I can happily say that I support you taking a break if that means you can feel rested and excited by the story. No need to get to burn out!

Carya Galabra

Hey man, take care of yourself. Just because others can write a million words an hour doesn't mean that's the path for you. Writing is a job, and every job has rest time. Some days i go to work from 9 to 6 and don't get much done. Some days I'm on point. It's all right to not have max output all the time. I would be even happy if you decide to take Wednesday off as well and use it as backlog to give yourself a buffer. Or even publish twice a week only while you build up your reserves. You got this

Arturo

You fucking idiot. All* your issues are selfmade. I came here in times of chapters riddled with errors. The only one that has expectations for you and is pressuring you is YOU! You don't want to betray my Trust? MyTime invested? The fuck dude, i don't trust you and i don't invest time. I did not ask for better quality. I did not ask for anything. But now i am asking for a fuckton of errors in the next chapters. Fuck you and your expectations. Stop feeding the Beast. The only thing i have is hope that you stay alive and don't disappeare without a trace. You know what, fuck your delivery of chapters on here for money. Ima gona read them somehwere else. Now shut up and take my money.

RageBone

Burnout is real. Don’t feel bad about giving yourself time. In my experience, burnout is pretty closely tied to expectations on how we want something to be differing from how things actually are. Unsolicited advice: look at how you’re working and try to objectively answer these questions: What am I doing now? What should I be doing now? Are either of the previous sustainable? Can I change things to make this easier?

Dee

Try fasting for a day or two. Dose wonders to clear the mind.

Artur Vogt

Honestly I love your work. However don't hesitate to take a break. If you think you need it. I don't want you to burn out. Neither does everyone else on here. Either way just take care. Your doing a good job.

lewis newhouse

Take your vacation. You need it but dang did you leave on a cliff hanger. Hahaha. Enjoy your time off

JS

My dude, do what you need to do. If you need rest. Take some rest. I vastly enjoy your story. Other authors and artists take breaks too when they feel overwhelmed. Rest up come back to is 100% and pets continue the journey.

Birb

Just go on a vacation, take your mind of your story for a week or two and then go back to your pace. Don’t force it until you just have a blockade in your brain to all creativity.

tobias merz

It sounds like your starting to approach a balance of work and giving your brain a proper rest. If you find that 3 chapters a week is what you find to be satisfying in terms of output and going any lower makes you apprehensive then I would stick with the 3 a week. Definitely take a longer break to refresh before you start feeling burnt out though. Because it is a fine line between having just enough stress to feel productive and having enough stress to feel exhausted.

Mark

I'm not on patreon - and this is my only regular patreon sub - to buy X amount of words. I'm on patreon because I want my favourite author to be able to live off of his/her writing, so you can continue to tell a story that's interesting and entertaining. The more the better, sure, as long as it is quality work I enjoy. Supporting that is worth the price of a fancy coffee. And you sound like you need a 2 week long vacation soon. Just because your job happens to be web novel author doesn't mean that you have to work 6 days a week for months. So my advice is: use that pile of money you get to take a trip, do on site research for your novel in old mines open to the public, or do a 2 day crash course on diving in wells, or get a bnb in a major city you always wanted to visit. Or a historic village with people acting as residents, if you wish. Writing is about experiencing things you can use in your novel and if all you do is sit at your computer you'll tend to repeat the same things over and over - and then your slice of life will be less interesting.

Kara Nina

Tldr on the comments but man, i would rather you deliver great work over a longer period of time, rather than burn out and rush an ending. Pretty sure there would be voices such as next chaoter bitch or where chapter asshoe! Stuff like that. But just ignore em because at the end of the day consistent great chapters wins the game. Pretty sure there are hthousands of people who demand chapters regretting it when an author inevitably stops because they burnout or got demoralised due to shitposts. So do what you can do and dont forget to take breaks and exercise. Succesful patreons are a result of quality work, not just fast releases/ lots of chapters.

Southmonk

Take time off if you need to. Need to go down to two chapters a week? That's okay. You want to start taking a week off every month or only a chapter a day every two weeks? Do it. Burn out isn't something you want to deal with. It's incredibly dangerous and I'd rather read what you're planning 9 months later than you planned for than never at all. You're providing us a story to read, and we're paying you for it. But you don't live to write this story. Writing this story is part of your life, but it isn't your entire life. You deserve days & weeks off. You deserve to be able to go vacation guilt free. If that means no chapters when you take a vacation I'm okay with that, personally. But more importantly if that's what you decide on, just let us know. If, one day, you decide you're going to write full volumes and post them to Amazon as books but you'll let Patreons get early chapters and if you don't post for 3 weeks while you write that's just how it goes, I'll be down with that, too. Take care of yourself, you're more than your work.

Jasper

In Europe, so I'm told, the average work week is 36 hours. And they get six weeks of vacation per year. That seems pretty reasonable to me. So. Have you been giving yourself a week off every two months? I'm willing to bet you haven't. Maybe try doing that for a while. I assure you, we'd all rather have the occasional week of missing our friends from Fa Ram, than have you burn out and lose your love for this story! Also -- you don't owe us more work because you are getting more money. The money you get from Patreon is not a reflection of how "hard" you work, nor of how "much" work you owe us. It's a reflection of our appreciation for your work, and your characters, and the joy you bring to our lives. You have *earned* that support, by creating the world and the work that you have created. And we support you, so that you can keep making something this wonderful for us to enjoy. So don't work yourself into exhaustion, or misery. We're not "paying you for 6,000 words per week". We're not "paying you for updates on M/W/F". We're not "paying you" at all. We're supporting you -- we're *taking care of you* -- so that you have the time and the peace of mind to devote yourself to making something amazing. Trust us to be wise stewards of our own money. Wise enough to know quality when we see it, to know dedication when we see it, to know craftsmanship when we see it. And we see all of those things in you. Trust us. And trust yourself, as well. You know when everything is going smoothly, and the inspiration is flowing. And you also know when it's not feeling like your best work, and you are struggling to get the words to behave themselves, and you're feeling tired and stressed. Take the time. Whether that's time to rewrite something, or time to slow down and take longer writing the current thing, or just time to go for a walk and enjoy the last of the fall -- take the time that works for your process, and trust that we will still be here, avidly awaiting the next installment, whenever and however you get it done. We're on your side. Because you're the only one who can make this world come to life for us. Thank you for all that you do.

Mickey Phoenix

I don't want to tell you how to conduct yourself, nor your business, but there are a few things in this post that are explicitly the kind of thing that makes me worry about creators who are in this kind of work. I support you making choices about what your workflow can be, and what your limits are but talking about a three-a-week schedule like it's bottom of the barrel is pretty unkind to yourself. For me, I have only so much patreon money to throw around, and it's either this or KSBD and Tom isn't hurting for support. I'm glad to be one of your patreons, and not just because I feel like it's a good deal. It worries me when I see these posts about you prioritizing the work and not "betraying" your patreons. I'm not your boss, or atleast I don't want that to be the case. I'm an admirer of your work, and that extends more to you than to feeling like I wanna check my watch and tell you to have the update on my desk by monday. This is overlong, and hella preachy, but at this point I'm in for a penny in for a pound. It's important to me that the things I put my funds behind are made ethically, as much as that's possible. Also, I don't think that berating yourself is an especially efficient writing process. I believe you when you say that you don't feel like you're *currently* burning out, but that does not mean that you are under any kind of obligation or expectation to keep trimming that margin until you're barely not burning out. I feel like I've overstated my point, and that this is all pretty unwelcome, but I'll close with a quote from Stephen King. Life is not a support system for art. Please let me know if I should delete this.

eva joan gardiner

Take your time, recharge, get the head free. You’re giving us a fantastic story, a decent break doesn‘t hurt any of us.

Nothorse

I demand you take 2 or 3 weeks not 1. Be good yourself and the end result story will be better for it. We have all already lived at least a decade without this story. We can live more without in anticipation of what you produce

Patrick Murray

Take a bit to relax. Yes, there is a lot of people following you. Think majority would rather you take time and are able to write more. Then have you burnout an we no longer get to see where you take this

Gary Hixenbaugh

I'd leave pattern on, just tell people you're taking a break so they can choose to support your break time if they want

ThorneHawk

I support the "take as many, and as long, breaks as you need to be healthy and happy (and thus prolly productive)". Burning out, getting jaded; those are killers of great stories. Whatever path you find sustainable is the right one. We'll adapt our expectations, especially w/ clear notice. Someone, somewhere will whine about anything; hey, it's the internet! :) don't worry about that.

fbt

this. (modern shorthand for "well said, I agree completely") :)

fbt

Breaks aren't something to be so tough on yourself about. Even if you feel like you have plenty of "breaks" already. I don't really know what else to say. I think as long as you communicate to your followers about taking a break. No one would be upset if you started taking more time off for yourself. Whatever helps you. Specifically I mean something like a week every two months or something idk. Secondly I think its fine to struggle on some chapters, I think that's the inevitable fate of any writer. Some perspectives are harder to imagine, or to put on paper from your imagination. Some need to be reworked. It's okay to fail every now and again as long as you can learn from each failure and grow.

Richard David Reily

you are many things casualfarmer but lazy is not one of them. i couldnt even imagine getting out such consistently high quality chapters in the quantity you do each week, and as far as patreon goes, you produce more chapters(of a higher quality too) per month than many other high grossing producers. you didnt luck out into this opportunity, you earned it. Your a good writer and what you deem unsatisfactory is better than what 99% of other paid content producers put out. youve earned yourself any breaks you need

Adolfo

Your story is really charming, and I look forward to every release, but it's the quality and the charm and the fun that really make it, not the quantity. This is a story I know I'm going to reread, I love it, and that's why I support you here. So don't feel bad taking time, that's not a betrayal at all. Do what you need to do, keep writing an amazing story, please don't feel pressured. I'm used to waiting years on new books lol. One of my favorites it's been over 10 years, and I still hold out hope. So don't worry about me waiting a little longer for one of your chapters. <3

Luke

Don’t worry about it, the means and methods of authors are set by the person. If you want to take a break, it is your prerogative to do so; I appreciate the quality and effort to write and create.

joshua Turner

Bro your quality of work is so much better than most of those other authors who write more than you. Don't worry about it, take a break, because that's important.

Ask-if-I-like-lemons

thank you for the story I really love the characters in this And you seriously deserve a break if you feel like it

Luke Preston

I am a patreon because I wan't to support another persons work. Not to get them to produce work for me. So you taking a break, and feeling comfortable about it, so you can be refreshed when you start working again seems like a good thing to support you inn. However, I would recommend actually taking a break. Not just pause the story and do catchup. Put everything down and relax for a while.

Torbjørn Nilsen

You're being open and honest. I support you because you're an amazing person that is giving us a truly wonderful story. I want you happy and healthy first and foremost. I'd completely understand taking a break.

TwistedToaster

Is that the same author as Wandering Inn?

The Lost Pages

TAKE A BREAk if you want, it is your perogative, just do it soon and shut patreon off for a month, when you are on break write if you want, when you come back you have a back log to post. and or change to tues-thurs for releases so you can get a more chapters in the tank

Len

You know, PirateABA, one of, if not THE, most prolific writers I've ever heard of, takes a week long break every month, to decompress and let their creative juices recharge. Take a week, read this webnovel I love; it's about a guy who leaves the sect, and finds cultivation in cultivating the land. I higley recommend it.

Bobby B.

Not having read the dozens of other comments, here's my two cents - most if not all of your patrons are each giving you a couple dollars per month for your writing. You may feel like you have several thousand dollars of expectations riding on you, but to most of us we have a couple dollars expectations of you at most!

Sean M.

Shirtaloon has also a super successful patreon and he is at the burnout limit too. In the end, if you feel like it's too much, you can suspend the patreon payments for a month and take a break my dude. I mean with december coming, christmas and the new year, that seems to be a good point too if you start to feel like you are fraying at both edges of the rope. Spend time with your family, center yourself. Rest. Hope that helps you !

Louisthau

As someone who's hit burnout before, it can be pretty subtle. I don't think any of us need you to publish 3 chapters a week or else. Take your time, we're here for you.

Neil P

Writers block and burn out are real concerns. You consistently put out 3 chapters a week, with a bonus rewritten one evey now and then. Your doing plenty. And I'd personally be happy with a single chapter let alone three if it's putting that much of a strain on you.

MockingBird

For what it's worth, I think you're doing very well. Don't judge yourself by the standards of others; find what works for *you.*

Daniel

Yeah honestly, Patreon is about supporting creators you like, it is a “service” but honestly it’s not a transaction, most all of us are here because we love your writing and story, and want to support you, don’t feel obligated to publish stuff, let it flow!

Zak Cornell

I‘m not paying because I want something out of it, I‘m paying because I want to support you.

Leander

Second the above comments. On another note I can only speak for myself however when it comes to my criticism of chapters, I make sure they are only chapters that you have already voiced concerns over. (You write stories far better than I ever will.) Honestly I hope that you take patreon criticism appropriately, we are all quite literally invested in your success. I like I’m sure many others here, want to help you find the “issues” that make a chapter dissatisfying, for our mutual enjoyment. Anyways, enjoy your break. May it be “enlightening” ;)

Aesoir

If I could offer my unwanted opinion: After the end of this volume, take a month off. People who want strictly pay only for content could unsubscribe for that month and others (including me) will be gladly paid that month too as your story gives us something great. In that month take time off and if you feel like it write some buffer, or not.

Martin Hájek

Readers can tell when an author is making excuses and when they are being honest. This sounds like you are working honestly. The only real criticism I could give is to say that a normal person works 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and I seriously doubt you are putting in 8 hours a day into this. But at least you are consistent and I feel like I can trust your release schedule aside from some minor things.

Colby Last

Chiming in to agree people. When I give on patreon it's largely about encouraging promising authors to stick with it and helping them have the financial security to keep writing, not to try to guarantee myself a product. As far as I'm concerned, take all the time you need to keep up the quality, even if that means the occasional break or lowering chapter frequency.

LenoraeKB

The whole premise of patreon is unconditional gifting.. take all the time you need bro. A few weeks on the beach will let the mind flow

Patrick Murray

I use Patreon to support artists, not buy services. That means supporting you by keeping paying when you're in a slump. I figure if Patrons didn't do that, creators will have to return to their day jobs to make ends meet every time they hit a bump in the road. Then we never get to enjoy the art again. If I were just paying for chapters, I'd buy a book. I'm paying to give you, and the other creators I support, a fair shot at doing what you love. Even if you make promises about a schedule, you don't owe it to me to keep them. You're a small business owner figuring things out, and that'll take some trial and error. It's no failure to miss a goalpost you set for yourself when you didn't know what the terrain looked like between there and here.

denatured

I say feel free to take time off if you need it you already have a crazy high number of posts a week for not having chapters written in advance

JG

Shirtaloon is taking a month off and suspending the payments for that month. If you can afford it, it's an option. If you can't, then take a week or two with enough warning that people tight on cash can suspend their payments and the rich ones can keep paying. :-)

Eric

Another story I read is The Wandering Inn by Pirateaba. She writes...a lot, but her update schedule is two chapters a week and one week off each month. Perhaps it would also help you to have a proper break each month. But I think you shouldn't worry too much about your throughput. At the end of the day there are thousands of writers who write ten times more than you, and yet have far fewer readers. If people become displeased with the amount you write...you might lose some patrons...maybe? I don't think you have this many patrons because you do 3 updates a week instead of 2 or some other schedule. We're here for the story and it will most likely be fine unless the whole thing goes on hiatus.

Madis Janno

I don't think patreon in your case is for "service rendered". I support you because I admire your writing. Just relax and be sincere in doing great work. Everything you write becomes public in a bit so I don't think anyone would pay for the "service".

Blahful

Thank you for the Update. No one can work continuously, we all need a break to rest and recharge. Take the time you need for your health and work. I would prefer you to say, "After this volume, I am taking a month off to recharge, I need a break." Then come back strong. Rather than keep forcing yourself and the quality to drop and possibly drop the story because of burnout. Although I would be disappointed because I would miss the story I would understand. The reason I support you is that I enjoy the story and want to help support you in writing it. I don't consider it a transaction of me paying for chapters.

Demian Buckle

You've been incredibly consistent. Both in terms of quantity, and quality. If you need the occasional break to recharge your batteries, then I for one, can hardly complain. That being said, it did feel like the last chapter was a bit thinner in places than I'm used to from you, so you're not off base in the assessment that things felt a bit strained. Take a little time off, and hit it hard when you get back.

IG884HIRE

If you set yourself difficult to maintain expectations by having patreon supporters, maybe patreon isn't the right platform for your needs. Or your expectations need an overhaul.

Mantiqore

You are definitely entitled to and have earned some time off beyond just the planning day. I won't stop support as long as your breaks are reasonable. Quality over quantity!

Jennifer

How do I get rid of dark mode on mobile?

Ben Allen

Hey, Writing is Work and everyone should have a healthy Work-Life balance. If 3 a week is too much, see how 2 or 1 a week goes. Consistency is key from all the web serials I consume. You have the quality, but find the rate that is comfortable. Its not a race, its a marathon. There are other authors that may post for two or three weeks then take one or two weeks break. Wish you the best of luck, and stay healthy!

Keifru

Patreon is definitely not a service. Its supporting artists, and artists need time to cultivate their muse. Just as qi enforced rice is superior, so are muse inspired stories.

The Slowest Turtle

You first. I'm paying more for other authors that update less frequently than you do. I'm willing to wait. Rome wasn't built in a day, the Sistine Chapel wasn't painted in a day.

Yeah, like take a week off every other month or something. That way he's still doing 3 times a week but also get a chance to decompress occasionally.

I don't see Patreon as a service, I see it as supporting an artist. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't pay to have X number of chapters delivered per week. I pay to support the person who is putting out something that makes me smile. If you need mental health days to keep being able to do that I'll fight anybody who tries to stop you!😁 In all seriousness, people need time off for mental health/burnout just as much as they need it for the flu. Take the time you need to keep putting out the wonderful work that you have been.

Corwin

you could switch your patreon to a per-delivery model and work on things that way? you could take a longer time between releases and deliver more content per release, with breathing room free from guilt since you arent getting paid anyway unless you put out content. i'll admit to being concerned with things being steadily more curtailed and pushed back

Adam Moore

Just having a buffer will give you less stress. Take a break. Heck, everyone has a right to them.

Slightly Morbid

Every job gets vacation, sick, and personal time. Not to mention deadlines slide and due dates change. It is what it is

Alex C

Three chapters a week is still more than good enough. I think one chapter a week is casual standard that fulfills my absolute-minimum expectations for 5 bucks a month on a quality non-filler story (which is sometimes hard to quantify in slice of life) although I would probably be a disappointed if there is only one chapter a week. And the chapter would have to be really long.

Some Total Kretin

I think you should post last patreon chapter to the public tomorrow and don't post anything in the next 8 days. So there will be a warning in the chapter. But is obviously your call. Enjoy your rest.

Guilherme Silva

I would say it is more your responsibility to stay healthy and well rested. Afterall you can only continue delivering such a wonderful story if you don't collapse from stress and/or overworking :).

MortederTod

I think you should also be allowed to take at least few weeks of vacation a year where you can actually detach and just put work and writing down for a bit

sand500
