Isolda the bonus has been added to Helixftr Deluxe. She's the first in a new internal format going forward.

I'm excited to share that I've made a breakthrough in the character conversion pipeline that will allow characters to be even more accurate to their original behavior, while also taking less work and time to convert.

Details

The creators of the animation library I use (CreateJS) made a dumb oversight which caused very long tweens to fail, requiring the original Helixftr character animations to be cut up into individual clips in a tedious process in order to work. I have now written code to preprocess the exported file and automatically break up problem areas before running it.

I had to rewrite almost all the character code to handle the new format, which actually didn't take very long after all my previous experience. I previously had to approximate old behaviors, but I was now able to write code to closely mimic the supporting functions of the original game, allowing the frame code of converted characters to be almost identical to that of their originals and making code translation easier. I was even able to smooth out some awkwardness in character internal behavior.

Going Forward

Previously-converted characters still work and will remain as-is for now. I will likely convert them to the new format eventually, but they will have to be completely redone, so I will probably wait until before the public release of the game. If there are any existing problems with previous characters, they will only be addressed if they are catastrophic, as they will be remade later anyway.

Controls

A minor control change was implemented, which is reflected in the control option of the menu. Spacebar now triggers a neutral struggle (indicated by the circle in the struggle widget) rather than Shift, which allows repeated neutral struggles while holding. Previously, repeated neutral struggles could only be triggered by tapping Shift. Shift + WASD still triggers directional pleasure.

Helixftr Deluxe is tested in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome on Windows 10. Performance currently appears to be significantly worse in Chrome for some reason, so using Firefox is encouraged.
