I wanted to put a twist on the Japanese lore regarding transformative powers that tanukis have, and make it more limited in scope to keep things feeling a bit more "grounded" in reality, as much as you can be when introducing something like this. I also wanted to connect a genetic component to it, such that inheritance of the abilities was linked to family lines, and would be something special that kept them bonded close together.

It makes me so happy seeing Toby discover his tanuki magic abilities. This was a wonderful path to take it down and I am lookong forward to seeing how it progresses. Beautiful comic panels as well. As always. <3
