This prompt is Cryptid...
This is a Mothman, and a Moth Fairy.....
The creature known as "Mothman" is known otherwise as Red Eyes, Omenwing, Blackwing Ferrymen, Death Omen, Manadh súl dearg, or Primeta...
Mothmen are a type of fae creature with a large imposing frame. Pitch black fur covers their bodies and they possess long grasping claws, and a set of smaller arms to manipulate things more finely, and a third set of smaller still arms used for simple grasping. They have enormous talons on their feet, and a large torso that seems to engulf a human like skull with a wicked expression. They possess two pairs of eyes, a smaller pair in the skull, and two much larger eyes along the sides of the head, though often times it keeps the smaller set of eyes closed unless needed. The Mothmen possess two pairs of wings, one a massive pair of bird like wings and the second pair much smaller and utilized for stabilization, and finally a large moth like abdomen that extends from it's lower back.
Mothmen have existed since mankind can remember and probably before. They have been seen as gods, monsters, angels, and devils, but they have always been considered an Ill Omen. Usually only emerging at night, mothmen appear in the dark with only their bright eyes visible in the night as they flutter about from place to place. Mothmen are very secretive, and it is unknown exactly what it is that they do, as they seem to be attracted to locations where great tragedy take place, or where accidents are common, and some have said that they have seen the mothman drinking blueish vapors from such places, or consuming spirit orbs. This has made people believe that they may be ferrymen, and even some old legends speak that mothmen will take the souls of the dead to their final resting place, or even spirit them away to the fae realm, which is why many graveyards utilize iron bars in their tombs, to prevent the fae from stealing spirits. This puts them at odds with the Shinigami, or Grim Reapers that usually take souls to the afterlife. There is a possibility that they are related however and may share goals and capabilities to an extent as the Mothmen seem surprisingly lawful compared to many other Fae as beings of chaos. In some groups the Mothmen are revered because of this idea that they may be benevolent fairymen, though some seem to simply take souls for the fun of it. There are several religious orders that follow Mothman, for better or for worse. Some of this ties into people's world beliefs, such as mothmen being attracted to the light of the lord that shines through one's soul, and that is why normal moths flock around light at night as they are distant relatives.
Though Mothmen are seemingly drawn to misfortune, they also seem to bring misfortune wherever they go. Mothmen usually only utilize their larger eyes, however whenever they open the smaller pair of eyes on their humanoid skull, wherever a mothman lands it's gaze, misfortune befalls. Chaos and entropy build wherever it stares, and various terrible incidents can take place. Objects close to the edge of a counter may fall, blades may slip and cause one to cut themselves, bolts and supports in a bridge may begin to give out, vehicles may fail, or one's health may begin to waver. Not all misfortune brought by the stare of a Mothman is immediate, and a glance from these terrible creatures can cause cancer in a person that goes undetected for years, or a deadly flaw in a home's foundation that causes it to collapse after 40 years. Because of this some communities even view those who claim to have looked mothman in the eye as "tainted" and treat them as a pariah as they have been marked by the mothman to return one day to them and spirit them away. Because of this inclination to cause mechanical damage, the mothmen may be considered a type of gremlin.
The feather of a mothman can be used in curse spells to empower the spell's capabilities and worsen the curse, and a bundle of mothman fur combined with a ritualistic spell can be left by or with someone to create a charm that causes unluckiness in whomever possesses it. Even the symbol of the mothman can bring minor bad luck to creatures. it is also believed that a mothman's feather can be used to summon one, or call fourth a fae if placed in a fairy circle in the woods. Some spellcasters whom have been able to slay a mothman, or potentially wound it, have stolen one of it's eyes to make a staff of ill omen, or a talisman of ill omen, which still retain some of the mothman's powers, and even still some have replaced their own eye with that of the mothman to gain futuresight, though those who do are afflicted with madness and misfortune themselves.
Mothmen are not known to speak to creatures, though some old legends claim that one may appear to a person and speak to them, telling them of an omen that will take place soon, as they not only can cause ill omens to take place, but can forsee any terrible event that will happen in an area and can alter destiny to ensure it does or does not happen. Sometimes Mothmen can be found in dark forests with other fae, watching as they dance in their fairy circles. Specifically they seem to be related to Fairies and the Moth Fairies, and may in fact be a type of fairy themselves.
Mothman is most famous from an incident involving one which gave it the name mothman in which it was sighted in Point Pleasant West Virginia in the 60's. During this time it was witnessed many times and caused a bridge to collapse, causing much death and destruction. Afterward several Men in Black were seen scoping out the area and forcing people to stay quiet about the incident. P.R.I.M.E. has been known to employ some strange figures that appear as mysterious men in black that deter people from speaking on situations and make others disappear on occasion.....
Moth Fairies are similar to fairies, in that they are small, winged creatures with insect like qualities, however they possess hideous skull like faces with four eyes, and very large abdomens that extend from their lower back. Otherwise they have very human appearances. Moth fairies flutter or dance about with their wings like a cloak, often times in groups of 3-6, singing songs of ill omen. Moth fairies can see the future, and will often flit about, performing tasks which ensure events they prefer happen. This could be a small event like placing a rock in someone's path, or a larger one such as burning down a building. Their wings possess a strange glittering fairy dust, that when sprinkled on a creature, makes it begin to forget things. They can use this to their advantage by fluttering about a creature and chanting things, causing the creature to forget what is happening and be enraptured by the chanting, then following the story or lead of the moth fairies. Moth fairies have manipulated creatures' memories with this in ways that entire towns have completely lost several years of their lives without knowing exactly what happened.
Moth Fairies are also attracted to lights, and so humans living in the woods who have a campfire going or houselights on are inviting Moth Fairies, and their dangerous little friends to visit. Moth Fairies often are found around other fairies, gnomes, or redcaps, though some may follow Will-O-Wisps.
Moth fairies are often times spellcasters, and they will use illusions to their advantage against enemies, especially those afflicted by their dust as they are more suggestible. They may often take the form of beautiful women to lead people to their death, or lead their souls to Mothman or other powerful fae. Finally they can also control moths, calling them to their aid to attack foes or be a distraction with their flickering wings......
