How about a colour out of space theme it's one of my favorite Lovecraft short horror story, Also if you don't mind me ask when is the new vol of slightly above average gonna come out?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First to answer that question, it's taking quite a long time, however I hope that new pages will start coming out next year at this time (Though possibly sooner if things go my way).
The color out of space is one of my favorites too and so here we go....
A Color out of space is a strange extraterrestrial creature that hails from an unknown part of the universe or multiverse. It is unknown if the entities exist merely within our star system, further beyond, or if they hail from another dimension entirely. What is known, is that Colors, like other beasts and entities from the void, fall to the planet from either space or another dimension in the form of a gleaming meteorite that crashes into the planet and takes root in verdant soil or shallow waters where the seed like object begins to grow and infect the surrounding area.
The meteor as it falls glows in various brilliant colors as it ignites, and these colors tend to feel off, or slightly different from a color that we may be familiar with. The colors produced by it tend to generally appear as a somewhat magenta color, though it's hue often times flickers and changes to a mixture of colors and shades previously impossible to properly view, giving similar effects as hyperbolic, stygian, and self-luminous colors.
Once a color lands, it's power seeps into the land where it becomes tainted and enriched by the alien's physiology and begins altering everything around it. Water systems become polluted and vegetation feeding on the polluted soil and water undergo massive growth and mutations, with the vegetation changing and shifting colors due to the light of the color, with many of the plants starting to take on qualities similar to fungi or living creatures and generating magenta or reddish color hues. In the darkness these plants glow with an uneartlhy color. The vegetation seems to grow daily and can even be seen growing or writhing and even making sounds on occasion. Animals that feed on the water or plantlife will begin acting strangely, will also give off a glow in dark lights, and will seem to grow fleshy growths and tumors on their bodies.
As the color grows, it begins to slowly emerge from it's landing place as a formless, spectral, energy that feeds on all life within several miles around it. Animals and humans fed upon by the color have their flesh turn grey and their bodies begin to wither, while also stimulating a rampant and unhealthy growth of stem cells, causing for fleshy cancerous tumors, arms, legs, eyes, mouths, and other body parts or organs to begin growing, causing a creature to uncontrollably mutate over time. As the color feeds on a creature's life force more and more this extra growth seems to fade away and the body just withers and is left as a shambling husk.
Whenever a color has been fully fed it will emerge from it's nest and fly into the sky to return to space, leaving the area it touched color blighted and unable to ever recover.
There are theories as to where the colors originate from, with some believing colors to all be fragments of a greater, endless vibrant light of colors impossible to comprehend by man, and others believe that the eggs belonging to the colors are cast by adult colors, flinging them through dimensions to seed new planets and propogate their species. Others believe them to be accidents, aberrant shards of more powerful entities that have been severed through an impossible cosmic battle, with the limbs absorbing power and growing until they can attempt to return to the greater whole.
Regardless, many cultures have grown to revere the falling of the colors, and Chromancers, or spellcasters that harness the power of the color spectrum, in some areas have come to view the colors as god like entities. The Scintilating order of the prism, the main caste of chromamancers even has a sect of it's teachings dedicated to a particular color known as the Hands of the Vibrant one, however that sect was split off from the church after so many of it's members became mad and began to perform terrible acts on other members of society. It is believed that they have a fragment of a dead, adult, color that they worship in their secret temple.
Adult colors are incredibly rare, but they can be seen in the form of sprawling skies of changing colors and visions of distant vistas, screaming mouths, blinking eyes, and twisted writhing forms, that seem to rain down a sapping liquid and who's presence can herald the end of a region or a mutation of an entire countryside or city, draining color from the area until it's gone.
Also pictured here are colorblighted creatures. The first is a color blighted wild dog and human. The beings have become fused together from their rampant cellular mutation, and the creatures bodies have become intertwined, growing new limbs and mutating it further. It has become very violent and looks only to feed on other creatures, or to kill to protect it's territory.
The next is a farmer, who has become so riddled with the colorblight that he is a mindless husk, his limbs growing out of control and a separate tentacle like arm growing on one side. These limbs are not purely vestigial and can be used to attack enemies around him. His mind has been blasted away, though he still remembers bits of his former life and will shamble about repeating tasks he did while alive and speaking to himself, repeating phrases that he remembers from his last sane days.
Finally is A Color Blighted stable of horses that have all seemed to melt together into a singular bloated entity that fills and ruptures with a color blighted pus. It's unable to move as it's flesh has begun anchoring itself to the ground, and it's body has mutated beyond the ability to become mobile for the most part. Creatures that have the misfortune of getting too close could find themselves fused with the mass, and even worse, the strange foals birthed from this wretched mound could prove to be much more mobile and far more alien than it's mother.
Many of the color blighted leak a strange pus like liquid from their bodies which is known by spellcasters as Ulcerated chromatogen. Chromatogen is a material that is basically an extracted color, and the ulcerated chromatogen is the condenced and liquified color that is rejected from the human body due to it's inability to comprehend or process such an impossible concept. It can be used to enhance chromatic spells, or it can be used to empower oneself at the detriment of one's own health, allowing one's eyes to behold colors previously unknown to man such as Ulfire, Jale, Kledrif, Phole, Marid, and Flaus.
Even within dreams, the colors can be dangerous, as those harnessing the power of Chromamancy can still infect their minds with the deadly colors and allow the blight to leak out into the real world, even potentially attracting a color from a nearby area to feed.
