Music Theory In 15 Minutes

My goal for this video is to teach you music theory in 15 minutes. Is that even possible?....muhahaha. I believe theory is the biggest secret to untapping your creative power. Some say it stifles your ingenuity but I've had the exact opposite experience. Many musicians don't learn theory because they think it's difficult. That's FALSE! I broke things down into 8 simple parts to prove this isn't the case. How did I do? Let me know if this format made sense to you below!

1. Musical Alphabet

Phase one is the musical alphabet. Getting a handle on this is a real game changer. It's equally as powerful as the 26 letters of the alphabet!

2. Reading Music

Phase two is deciphering those little black dots, as Steve Vai would say. Standard notation has many benefits of tablature. Including, chord visualization, pattern recognition, dynamics and melodic shapes

3. Intervals

Phase 3 is intervals, or the distance between two notes. Learn to identify each one by ear with my 12 interval songs!

4. Scales

Phase 4 is scales, or a series of notes that connects an octave. There's literally a scale for every emotion you feel and more!

5. Chords

Phase 5 is chords, or three or more notes played at once. Chords are my favorite aspect of music theory! I love making up chords that express specific moods. Dracula mood, haunted castle mood, even alien planet chords!

6. Time Signatures

Phase 6 is time signatures. These dictate how many notes are in a bar. Use them to catch a vibe and communicate your deepest desires

7. Rhythm

Phase 7 is rhythm, or the space we leave in-between playing. The possibilities are endless with quarters, triplets, 16ths and more!

8. Circle Of 5ths

Finally, phase 8 is the circle of 5ths. This concept tells us which notes sound good together. It's the most powerful way to categorize any song you hear. Within seconds you can identify a key and start jamming along!
