Azziel the demon reminds the helpless He-Man that he is the Master of Torment of all Yfarnos – and that he went to considerable lengths to lure his captive to the underworld for the express purpose of pitting his finely-honed skills against the hero’s strength, resilience and willpower. But he also reminds him that torture can take many different forms – and that part of his special skill is to discover which approach is best suited to the attributes of the victim. In He-Man’s case he intends to maintain the undermining of his prisoner’s capacity to resist by forcing him to confront the growing divergence between his high-minded innocence, and the strongly-suppressed strain of sensuality deep within his magnificently manly body. For, as the demon points out, pain and pleasure lie so little way apart; and sometimes so close that they are indistinguishable, the one from the other…….
