'A Sight to Gladden The Eyes'
We are back in Mediaeval England for our tale of skin and sweat, sparks and sex, where Benet, the skilled young swordsmith, is plying his craft at the forge while, unseen and unknown behind him, Piers the page boy looks rapturously on. Benet is a visitor at the castle and means only to complete his task, take his pay and leave. Piers is a retainer here – and one of rank; he has no real business being in the forge at all, but the sight before him which drew him here keeps him standing to drink it in. The smith may be a mere craftsman but the high-born page has never, ever seen his like. He stares and stares, and cannot tear himself away.
