The Gladiators – Part Four (Public)
Added 2022-01-13 05:21:19 +0000 UTCOn the hot sand, under the blazing sun of Rome, two gladiators fight for the entertainment of the crowd – and especially for that of the First Consul, patron of the Games. As they circle, sword in hand, the rumble and roar of the onlookers is loud in their ears and sweat runs down their well-muscled bodies in the humid heat. The mob may bay for blood, but these two are professionals, highly-trained and paid – and neither has the least intention of killing, let alone of being killed. No, the aim is to make the fight convincing – and to amuse and entertain. Showmanship, as much as swordsmanship, is on offer today – and, while they are swift to discard their blades, once the obligatory clashes are done – each fighter has his own tricks in store to gain a lucrative victory here in the arena today. Which explains that swift kick to the balls, setting one of the protagonists flat on his back – and allowing the other to invite the admiration and applause of the crowd. However, down his opponent may be; out he is not. Retaliation is swift to follow – and soon the apparent victor is crashing forward, his senses blacked out with pain. And – of course – the crowd love it and set Rome ringing with their shouts. Even the Consul (and his decorative accompaniment – a nubile young girl who may very well not be his wife) appear amused.
