Steel - [ FFXIV Commission ]

First completed commission of the year for our resident Discord kneeper, Saber (Yul Taiyo)! Also, first Endwalker gear piece (if you don't count Umbral Soul, which I drew way before the release).

I have to say - which I don't do often - I'm incredibly proud of this one. Values and rendering have been one of my long time Achille's heels. My style usually leans more into lineart heavy, graphic painting and this type of high contrast/soft blending style really didn't come naturally at all. Then I was working on this piece and things just sort of clicked? Like all the frustration I've picked up over the years somehow manifested into a kind of functional epiphany that just had me going "hol up, who's at the wheel?" for most of the process.

Either way, bit of gushing aside, I truly enjoyed working on this. It took a little longer than I expected thanks to SE rehoming every evicted belt buckle to the chest piece, but we got there and I'm very pleased to have it mark the start of the year.
