FEBRUARY ART CHALLENGE

Mandatory "What is an art challenge?":  Art challenges are a casual way for everyone to get involved in doing something creative, with no pressure or need to do a perfect job. It's not a contest or competition- everyone is welcome and all patrons receive the same rewards. Furthermore, it's not just open to artists, but to writers, video editors, sculptors or anyone with two hands and a creative thought in mind.

Ah, love. What is love if not the unfettered lust for tropes that fiddle away at our heartstrings? Archetypes that tug at our base instincts and keep us awake at night? Happy-ever-afters that cut off right before the part where they find out the one snores and the other leaves their nail clippings in the sink?

For the sake of this conversation, love is also this month’s challenge theme- but not any kind of love:

Tropey Love

To assist you in this endeavour, here are a few ideas - courtesy of tvtropes.com- to get your angst engine rolling:

“Will they, won’t they” - looks of longing, accidental hand grazing or almost kisses… if it makes your lungs beg for air, you’re doing it right

“Love before first sight” - follow that red string of fate to meet the soulmate  you’ve never seen before, but maybe you have? In a dream? In another life? Across the aisle at Costco?

“It cannot be… but can it?” - forbidden love, the most transcendent of tropes. From star-crossed lovers to enemies who just really can’t keep it in their pants, anything goes. The more it hurts, the better it feels.

These are just some random-and-totally-not-my-favourite romantic arcs, so you are more than welcome to pick your own, pick them all or come up with a new one.

Now raise those anchors and get ready to row- this ship is ready to sail!

So how do I participate?

This challenge is open to ALL SKILLS and MEDIA, such as:

• Drawing and Crafting
• Writing
• Photography and screenshotting (see rules for specific instructions)
• Music composition
• Others (DM me if you have an idea not listed)

Core rules apply to all entries:

• The work must be created specifically for the challenge
• It must be obvious that enough time and effort was put into the entry
• Along with your entry, you must explain your reasoning in applying the theme to your piece

Your entry must meet these requirements to qualify for points. If your entry does not meet the requirements, you will be informed of what you need to change or adapt.

Where do I post my WIPs (Discord/Patreon supporters only)?

You may post the WIPs of your work in #art-talk just to share and #art-feedback for critique. Once the image is complete, please post it in #art-challenge.
