Demi Subverse backstage preview look and inside stories!

Hello my Sweethearts!

Today’s post will be about backstage from Demi photoshoot. And I’ll also try to remember some back stories. )

I remember when I first saw the Subverese game, it instantly caught my attention by its character design. Each female character had a distinct waifu material vibe. It’s like when you take all the best from artists from rule34 and condense in one gorgeous form.

As you know our first project eventually became Lily, blonde sexy scientist in the field of alien biology. But there was a character that we wanted to work on first before her. Unfortunately, having only idea and desire without any base preparation won’t make anything.
We haven’t decided on an android look yet. Should we make the hair in the form of a prop, like a helmet? What material should be use for V-string swimsuit? Matt or light reflective? Natural material or spandex? What shoes must we choose? Open toes, transparent strippers or closed toes high heels?

And most importantly we still didn’t have a model at the time. But at least here we had something, something better. We had an idea who would be perfect for that, hahaha! )
Good thing negotiations went smoothly, because we really think that both character and model were meant for each other.

One day while I was browsing online stores I stumbled on a certain wig. It had a very unique hair color and the moment I instantly decided that it would be great for Demi! I only needed to cut it in the form/style we needed.
Since I chose natural hair for our Demi design, I decided that we’ll choose more natural material for a swimsuit. In the end we chose something in between, because natural materials usually don’t stretch, but save the given form. So we needed something that would keep the form and also Dscratch around the model's body.
But we still didn’t know what material to use. It came to me, when I took one of our face masks. As you remember COVID is still present and at the time still was a hot topic. I made masks from a certain type of polyester usually used in the making of sports wear. Dense, stretchy and breathable. It also was blue color. So when I made the first swimsuit prototype, it was decided!

We also chose open toe heels, because eventually we’ll have our model to be fully naked. If we are going for more natural look, it would essential to see toes, even so it wasn’t in the original design. It would be a good choice to use strippers (transparent high heels, actually very high 15 cm and above), but out model told us that she is very bad with the high heels in general. To be fair you need to be accustomed to strippers and if you’re not professional you might get injured.

To make skin look better and in order to not retouch it later, many models use skin oil. Even if images would be retouched later, oiled skin is easier to work on later on post-production. But it also creates certain uncertainty, when face appears too different from the body on top of that it already will look different because of the applied face foundation. So you need to be very careful with this very useful tool, I mean oil.
Also it dries out in a span of 10-15 minutes and skin looks better in the last few minutes before fully drying out.
I already wrote about it in the past, so it’s more for my friends who are new here. )

At first we wanted to use oil on the set to make skin shiny to emulate android’s smooth metallic surface. But when it came to applying makeup, it turned out the oil helps to erase the paint easier. That’s why we decided to not apply it. Eventually the paint was still wearing off, so I think it wouldn’t be that bad if we still used oil.
But good ideas and decisions always come late. )

In the pre-production period we were thinking of applying full body paint on models’ body. Like we did for Lich Queen photoshoot. But as I remember full body paint didn’t help too much after on the post-production. Apparently it gave more complications. Maybe because I’m not that proficient in body paint to be fair and maybe it’s easier to work with the work of a professional. )
In the end we decided to go with the plan we had on Widowmaker project. To alter the skin later on post-production.
The only thing that was crucial is to ask our model to not get tanned. Which is actually easy in Siberia, when the winter lasts for most of the year. Paler skin would act as the substitute to painting the skin. Good thing, everything went well. )

You know what was the hardest part about drawing? Demi’s design was changed multiple times during the game's production. So here and there we found little differences. Fan arts also didn’t help, because artists interpreted the original design in their own way.
I took the middle way and tried to go with original design as much as possible, but also gave myself creative approach like fan-artists did.

This is all for today. )
I hope it’ll be an interesting read, while looking at some of the images from the backstage.
As you can see Demi project was created despite all odds. We didn’t know where to start and then a lucky coincidence in the form of a wig came. We didn’t know what material to use, but it turned out I had everything in my hands already. We weren’t sure on how to be with the skin, but previous experience with other projects helped.
It’s always interesting how things will eventually turn up with each project, maybe that’s why I still love what we are doing. And thank you very much for still helping us do what we love.

Please, have a great day! And stay safe!

Quite the find with that wig. I think it turned out quite well.
