MAXIMS

There is only one writing method that works: sit in the chair.

A shift in perspective strengthens the prospectus.

A storage locker is purgatory for stuff.

There are no musts, shoulds, or oughts.

A pleasant life is composed of unpleasant habits.

Bad writing is the initiation ritual for good writing.

A habit is a byproduct of doing something compelling.

Comments

Enjoyed hearing everyone’s thoughts and the poem in this week’s episode. A concept that has been helpful to me is the idea of margins. You generally don’t fill a page to the edges; there is empty space around your writing. It’s the empty space that can make a room, art, or your life beautiful. It provides room to breathe, to stretch, think, to try new things. If we don’t fill every minute of our day, those empty times are our margin. It gives us space, rest, and makes us less stressed.
