This episode was a little tough for me. I believe the article "five reasons I don't go to doctors" is meant to be satirical? At least I hope so - we should not vilify doctors so completely. I think we put so many expectations on health care providers to "fix" us, and assume that medicine is a perfect science and doctors are not human beings that deal with the same issues as their patients. Even Dr. Greene on the show noted that only 50% of patients comply with what a doctor asks them to do! American healthcare does not empower holistic medicine to be practiced. Doctors are asked to see more patients than ever, in less time than ever, and to document every single microscopic movement they make. And patients are coming in sicker than ever and as the MD on the show pointed out, unwilling to follow their doctor's advice at least 50% of the time! No wonder physicians are at risk for drinking and suicide. They're told in med school that they will be able to help people, only to find out that people refuse to help themselves. It's a complicated issue for sure, one with many broken links throughout the healthcare system. I don't think avoiding doctors is the answer. It may be as Ryan said, about choosing the right doctor. Thanks for the thought-provoking content, as usual guys!
