“Certified Pre-Owned Like Brand-New and Improved”

Patreon Exclusive! Joshua & Ryan discuss the pernicious promotions of products, and they answer the following questions:

What role does ethics play in branding? (9:30)

How do I combat the attachment to my possessions? (59:17)

How do I determine the products that will work best for me with as little waste as possible in the process? (1:02:26)

How is “brand-new” different from “new”? (1:03:57)

Is “new and improved” actually a new product or simply an old product with a facelift? (1:04:04)

How do I overcome decision paralysis and choose a product with excellent function rather than continuing to search for the same product with the “perfect” combination of function and form? (1:08:34)

How do I best explain the actual value of products to my children so they appreciate and respect those expenses? (1:13:28)

How do I reconcile my minimalist values with the objectives of my business? (1:23:02)

How do I overcome the painful memories associated with items from a past relationship so I don’t waste money replacing those items? (1:28:09)

Hi Josh and Ryan, This is Jenny from your Melbourne show. I had so much fun talking to you at your Melbourne show and will never forget it. I have just upgraded from a $2 Patreon to become a $5 Patreon. Hope to meet you both one day as we had to leave the Melbourne show early because of Sunday timetable for trains and missed on getting our hugs. I was so upset. Keep up your excellent work. Jenny

Given the amount of dollars many of those brands in the article spend on Instagram, I thought it worth sharing this tip I discovered a couple years ago: Delete the Instagram app. When you want to see photos your friends post, visit Instagram on your mobile browser. There won't be ANY ADS in your feed. If you continue using the native app on your phone, about one in five posts will be an ad.
