This is such an important conversation! I wish every parent would listen to this. Don't be afraid to really listen to your kid and help him navigate his post-high school path in a way that aligns with his strengths and values, not yours. My son chose to attend college, but as a commuter student, which was not what I expected. It was hard for me at first; I wanted him to have the same social experience that I did. But that can never be! It is his future, not mine. He has a passion for chemistry and college gives him the opportunity to complete research with his professors: he is already doing important work and will soon be published! I know this is the right choice for him, but I can see that college is not for everyone. Thanks to T.K. Coleman for his honest insight...
